That's true. I've been looking at them for several months at Sweetwater and I never saw one over 9 pounds. Someone had a brown burst for sale in the Classifieds a while back and they said it was under 8 lbs!

I've got a similar issue. I've got the MK1 pups and preamp in my 55-01, and SR535. I wouldn't say the Lakland sounds bad, but it is definitely lacking clarity, and sounds a bit dull and lifeless compared to the SR535. I've played other 55-01's in the past few weeks, and they seem to have the same issue. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't the older SR650's made of Ash? The 55-01's are also Ash, so I can't help but wonder if maybe the MK1's don't respond too well to ash, compared to mahogany. Btw. That's a sick looking bass you've got there. I'd love to hear some sound clips.

Quick gig report:

So, I played my gig on Saturday with my new Cerro. We do a mix of music we like - Prince, Level 42, D'Angelo, Beatles/Wings, Stevie Wonder, Son Little, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, Elton John, etc, so I need to have a bass with lots of tones for the different styles we cover. I'd been previewing the Ibanez throughout the week and felt so confident that it would deliver the goods I left my Fodera at home, which is a first for me (I do bring it as a back up when playing my 4 strings)! The Cerro delivered beautifully - from slap to old-school thump, it really sounded nice. Great even response across the neck, felt great (VERY comfy), and I had plenty of sounds at my fingers.

I play 95% of all gigs with my Fodera (I do also use my Sterling and Spector 4's on the other 5%). Was it as clear, defined, authoritative as my Fodera Emperor 5? Well, no, but that's like comparing a Lexus to a Ferrari. Both are nice, but once you drive the Ferrari, you know what your money bought you. I can hear the difference, but only because I've been playing that instrument for over 20 years. I got NOTHING but compliments on the tone from both audience and the band. Several audience goers came up to me to tell me how beautiful the instrument was. I had a bass player in the audience come up after the show and ask me if I was playing a Fodera, since I had my TC Poly clip on over the Soundgear emblem. When I told him it's an Ibanez he had to try it.

This is DEFINITELY a keeper. Very happy with the feel and sound and it's completely stock. I'd like to try some different strings on it, but I'm in no hurry. Like I mentioned before, IMHO, Ibanez got this one right!

Ricky, I think I own your old GWB1005. It is an absolutely wonderful instrument-thanks for taking such great care of it. Can't wait to see/hear this new one!

2. B string feels and sounds great.

5. The top and headstock veneer are stunning! Again, Sweetwater listened to my request for an outstanding top and they delivered.
6. Not a fan of Elixers...
7. REALLY digging the 18mm spacing. I prefer 19mm but this is definitely manageable. Much better than the standard SR 5 string spacing (at least for me).
8. I won't be able to plug it in until mid-week (bummer).

I'm really loving it so far. Here she is just lounging on my couch:

This is one I'd really like to try. The demo sound clips I've heard so far are impressive - really solid tone. I think Ibanez put a great package together with this - wood combination, electronics, hardware, wider string spacing, and the added support a single cut provides for the low end. Beautiful top on this one. Does it balance well (no neck dive)?
