Enjoying these two today:

SR1300PM from 94 and SR950TT from 92. The 950 just had a fret LCP and it feels amazing. I'm not the original owner but both are in near mint condition.....but I'm still swapping out the electronics on the 950 due to a stock preamp noise issue. I was thinking an EMG PJA set (the alnico set vs. ceramic), Aguilar PJs, Bartolini B Axis PJs, Nordstrands (if they would do a version without pole pieces showing). That Ash/Ebony combo means everything is articulate, so not sure if I roll with that or add something for more old school sounds.

Any suggestions?

I've got an SR755NTF (PJ) with Nordstrands as stock. I use it a lot passive and I really like the tone they give which was designed to be very Fender. I think the sound-clips on the Nordstrand website pretty well reflect the tones available out of the P. The PJ thing is not quite J bass but is close enough that it isn't obvious. Then there are some good tones in between including some great 80s and 90s tones. Mine is a 2016-17 bass so probably a different pre-amp which really brings out the articulation of the pickups. I like that too, but I use the passive mostly as it suits what we do.

Just got this last week and already used it on a gig.

It looks and sounds great. Hanging on the wall at GC, it and a purple Schecter Studio 4 stood out to me the most. After comparing them both for some time I decided to take the Ibanez SR670 home over the Schecter although it was pretty close. The 3 way mid selector switch makes a difference.

The only bummer for me is that although it looks stunning up close in my hands, from a distance or on stage it just looks like a black bass.

But then again I'm just nitpicking there. Anyway I thought I would post some pics for those of you who have not seen one in person yet, plus I just like posting pictures. :smug:

Nothing fancy, just an old workhorse from the early 2000s. An Ibanez SR400 in Vintage Blue. I like her a lot. Neck is straight as an arrow with no buzzing. Plays and sounds really good, especially for what I paid for it (my secret).

I see a used SR500 lefty in great condition for a good price. It was made before they added the mid switch. I already have the new SR300E with the powerspan pickups. My question is, does the older SR500 offer anything substantially better than the new SR300E? Since I am a lefty, I have been waiting for a SR1200 to show up used, but it seems to be rare here in Italy. Should I hold out for the SR1200? Note that being lefty means very few models are available, so it is basically the SR300, 500 and 1200 for me. Thoughts?

There will be a nice difference between your 300 and a 500 but not that huge.
If you look out for the 1200 you will see a much bigger improvement in the bass. Especially the pickups are really better, electronics are the same, but switch it off and you have an awesome passive bass !
And also it looks way better :)
