The 1992 MIJ SR700G arrived today! Looks like the previous owner did replace the pups with the standard active EMG P/J set. She's heavier than my others - looks like northern ash, but tonally warmer with a much thicker fundamental. I'm guessing it's the qualities of Japanese sen vs ash.

Also, it has a 42mm nut vs the 38mm nuts on my other SRs, and the best fretwork of the bunch.

Here it is next to my 1995 MIK SR590 (soft maple body and passive Lawrence pups). Very different beasts with the different body woods and pickups.

... and with my 2001 ash MIJ SR690, also with passive Lawrence pups. The 2001 has a lighter body and is more open sounding.

the weight may be in the accucast iv bridge which weighs 11.5oz

If it's the same CAP jazz pickup that is the neck pickup on the premium ATK, then it should sound great. I thought those pickups were some of the best I'd heard in an ibanez

The Cap J's sound very good. I played them on an Ashula a few times at a store (the first Ashula, which was trans-white).

Very nice! I've liked the look of the 2600s since they first appeared; good to hear they sound great, too!

With the right strings on those I'll bet it would sound close to an upright.
Since it's got the piezo pickups you could actually use phosphor-bronze strings on it!

I've tried the SRH500 at the Sam Ash & that one had tape-wounds on it.
Not my thing, but it sounded good for what it is, & of course it's super lightweight.

this one catches my attention:

The white transparent finish on the body, showing the wood grain, kinda reminds me of the SR2010ASC-TWF Ashula (although these Shimamura basses have Transparent White Low Gloss finish, whilst the 2010 Ashula has Transparent White Flat finish (and matching headstock)).

Yes I am thinking either LaBella LTF or TI's.
Those are my first thoughts on the right strings. I also have the SRF706 and it sounds great but I'm growing tired of the eternal brightness of the Chromes that came on it. I'm sure the SRH505F will have the Chromes but a flat wound 5 string set is a little easier to find.

it caught my attention first too. it showed up on ebay and i thought... well... that's new. the brown headstock looks a little weird. maybe it looks better in person.
