It was slightly used and needed a bit of help in the setup department but it's all good now. Not a huge fan of gold hardware but there's always compromise. It's got a nice bite to the tone and the wider neck is great. It's quickly rivaling my Stingray and my Roscoe as my #1!

beautiful bass, I've had my eye on one since I found out they had 18mm spacing at the bridge. I got to play one at a local GC and even though it was setup poorly the quality was still quite apparent. I think (aside from preferring neck-thru) my only issue with the bass was the fretboard material. Pretty sure it's panga panga? I had an SRMS805 with the same fretboard material and it felt kinda soft to me, I still think I'd prefer rosewood.. but aside from that everything is great on the bass; those super doubles sound really nice. I really hope ibanez offers more 5 string models with the 18mm spacing in the future, i think they're heading in the right direction.

I had played one a while back and loved it but couldn't get it at the time. It is panga-panga, which I looked it up and it's similar to wenge and ebony. Just wish they offered it in more colors. I already have a nice blue Stingray and now 4 out of my 5 are some form of a 'burst. The up's and down's of buying used...

I actually really like the 16.5mm spacing on the 5s, it is easy to skip a string either with fingers or a pick. I would like to try 17 or 17 1/2 though out of curiosity.

I'm with you on the spacing. I really like the 19mm I have on others and the 18.5 on my EHB.

My Fender has 19mm, my Stingray has 17.5 and now I have 2 that are 18mm. This was my previous SR755 which was great but the 16.5 was a bit much.

Leg ouch!

Hello. Just bought an SR306EB, and as a retiree (yay!) I've been practicing a lot with it as I haven't really played a bass guitar in almost 30 years (been playing upright basses all that time).

It is a somewhat comfortable bass, and I really dig the sound, but man, why they have such a small radius on the lower horn and body where it goes over the leg is beyond me.

Now I practice about 40 hours per week with the 306, but I notice that many SR basses have the same contour. I've read up to page 30 of this thread, and I've searched it and came up with only one other person inquiring about the leg fit, but never saw anyone answer that query.

I've tried a small pillow under the horn, but it keeps sliding out from under it. I also built a support contraption which has a flat side and fits under the horn, and it works sorta good.

I dunno, maybe it's just me? Oh, and maybe the other guy...
Anyone else encounter this and come up with a solution? Very curious.

I have two SR basses and I guess I never thought about this. So, I just sat down with one of them. If I hold the bass with the neck pretty much horizontal, it stays put. But, if I raise the neck very much it does slide off my leg. However, when I practice sitting down which is most of my practice time, I still use a strap. I guess it helps keep this from happening since I've never noticed it before.

Standing up I play with my bass at quite an angle (a classical guitarists type of angle) but I can't do that comfortably sitting down. I also find that either the bass is slipping off my leg if its on my right leg or if its on my left the nut is just too far away so I end up playing in in quite a flat position that doesn't suit my fretting hand at all. So, for the sake of comfort I do do a lot of my playing at home standing up.

I bought a SR (I believe it was a 1200) new in 98 or 99.It was a neck through 4 stringer,butterscotch maple and koa (two dark stripes F and B all the wah down the neck)24 fret abalone oval inlays w/ active Barts.Sadly I no longer have it,(stolen in 2005)and haven't seen another one like it after searching quite a bit. Anyone familiar?Ive been thinking of replacing it lately.cheers

No, and I looked in the catalogues I have, but didn't see it. I'm curious though, just for curiosity sake and I'd like to add a NT SR 6 of this era to the collection.

Me too. And I play typically with "tuners high" when standing, bass is about 45 degrees to the ground. But, I do a lot of transcribing on the computer throughout the 7-8 hours I'm practicing, and I feel more comfortable sitting with the bass in my lap when I do.

Oddly enough, I can sit for a loooonnng time with my Squire Jazz V on my right leg, but not so the SR306 because: 1., it slides off without a strap, and b., that really narrow edge starts to hurt after a few hours... not a problem with the Squier's broader flatter under horn surface, I can sit with that forever without noticing it.

Thanks for taking a moment, I found this by adding "butterscotch" to the search looks identical save the pickups and electronics....
