I'm going to throw down my SR950 with Dimarzio Model P/J pups, stripped to natural finish, play it with flat Chromes.

Also, my 1993ish SR500 that used to be turqouise/blue, I refinished it with a yellow dye for the maple body and tung oil. Has Seymour Duncon pups, sounds good and is light as a feather!

for all of you SR500 owners.....i just recently purchased one.....sorry i haven't gotten around to posting pics yet! but i had a couple of questions......

1.) What kind of strings are you using for rock?
-right now i have DR high beams 45-105 on them(came free with the bass from GC)...the bass playing tech told me these would be an awesome fit for the bass...i explained to him that i need something for playing with a pick, finger picking, slapping, finger tapping as well

2.) what height do you have your pups adjusted to?
-i feel as if the bass is a tad boomy at the moment, have messed around a bit with height but apparently not enough, hence why i am seeking some opinions


overall, i LOVE this bass! its half the weight of my SRX390, and the neck is a bit thinner as well....still trying to get used to the weight and neck although....i gigged with it last night and was finding myself having to watch my hands a tad bit more...but love the amount of tonal adjustments i can make via the knobs

All my SRs have Elixir sets on (the factory strings). Pickup height is factory standard. I wouldn't mess with pickup settings unless the bass lacks volume or if the strings don't sound even.

There's a manual on the Ibanez site that contains their factory settings: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] , but you should start with everything flat (onboard EQ controls, amp controls and so on) and work from there. Your old settings might not work anymore since it's a new bass with a different voice than a SRX.

My fear is that the rest of the world will suddenly wake up and discover what we already know - that these basses are amazing - and suddenly their value will increase. Right now used Ibbys are so cheap it's unbelievable. It's hard to imagine what one with bad electronics would go for given what they cost fully functional. I got a beautiful SRX3EXQM1 for $199 used. It's my third Ibby and is now my main player. (Yes, even over the SR700 which I also love.)

That's what i was planning on doing at practice tonight....any one have the factory pup height specs on the sr500? That manual didnt have them, but was very informative! Ive already noticed i had to adjust my 10 band eq when switching basses, i only use that pedal for my slap lines.

DR Hi Beam strings are offered in SS and Nickel (Big Difference). People often mention Hi Beams without stating which! :rollno: Consider the Lo Rider, Sunbeam, and Hi Beam Nickel strings, each has different tension. The Lo Riders seem to be more popular among TB users - due to higher tension. Go Nickel!

Ibanez Soundgear SR700AM

I'm a Yamaha Attitude man, so I love heavy basses with very deep lowend.
No heavy basses here with Ibanez in general and Soundgears in particular but still an unexpected very deep lowend, thanks to Bartolini USA custom (on SR4500) and some shining backup provided by the SR700.

Sounds like those pots need a bit of contact cleaner to get rid of all that noise - it's a quick and easy fix, you can do it yourself ;)

To everyone who tried to help me out, a big thanks. It was the stupid battery. Now I know not to skimp on the brand of 9 volt battery. I used a very generic brand and it died in a week. The copper top it is from now on. I took back to the store, and the dude plugs it in and starts jamming on it. He says, "you got the bass, now you need an amp." Good salesman indeed. Thanks again everyone!
