I sincerely doubt that any holes were drilled by hand. That is just not economically feasible for production runs of this size. Cheap copy basses maybe. More likely the positioning jig is getting a little worn in this case. And 1 mm?

I like seeing how the new controls will fit using the full-size drawings. Be SURE to check that there is clearance underneath where the hole is routed. Sometimes the hole barley clears the pots. You may need to rotate the PCBs about 90 degrees from your photo, so they are not pressing against the side of the opening.

Yeah there's a couple of pickguard screws that don't line up well either, will have to fix them.

Cheers, the regular EMG pots weren't too much of a concern, but i'm putting in a BTC and VMC, which have a much bigger circuit board on them.

Yes 1mm is a bit pedantic, but with the big square Badass bridge that 1mm is quite obvious, and since i'm drilling through and putting ferrules on the back, it's worthwhile to get it spot on.

Cheers, it's definitely one of those measure 100 times then cut things, but I will have to rout out some clearance either way, still trying to figure out the best orientation.

Just a rough idea for first time around, will do this again with a much finer marker & straighter lines, before signing of and cutting in to it.

Currently undecided about the jack location, so I figure it's a good idea to make space for something else while i'm in there routing. EXB? AB220?

And the battery box on the back

That's the outside of it, the routed hole is a bit smaller.

Do yourself a big favor and get the battery box that just flips up and has no wired connectors. The battery just drops in and closes. Much easier to change batteries and more reliable as you won't break off the battery wire when changing.

I put one of these in a Warmoth bass and I like it a whole lot. Battery slides in, battery slides out, no fingernail breaking fiddly connectors.

I have been planning to do this to my Mini. I was going to do it at an angle towards the bottom of the bass instead of 90 degrees so I could use flats without breaking them. HOWEVER - I got a set of the special Mini-P Flats from LaBella and it is no longer necessary. They sound so good I will never change them. Many Thanks to Rsteady for letting me know they were available.

The Gotoh looks just like one on my Ibby SR in which the battery seems to be irretrievably jammed. Not a fail-safe design (unless somebody can tell me how to get a jammed battery out!)

OK - Here's my completed, ready-to-gig Mini-P! Finally.

New Pickguard from earlpilanz on eBay
Rounded fretboard edges and smoothed fret end with 180 foam sanding block.
Black Metal knobs
DiMarzio DP121 pickups I had laying around
Triple string tree to hold the A down better
Mute switch
Puretone output jack
Glarry tweed Strat guitar case
and the icing on the cake - LaBella 760FM-P Flats specially made for the Mini-P. WOW they are great.

Some of them are just made that way. I have used both styles. It can really make a difference with an open A.

Last August, in post #3804 (page 191) of this thread, Club member #11 @pistonrod8 indicated his intent to sell his very extensively modded and upgraded Squier Mini Precision bass. I was the "knucklehead" who expressed interest and purchased it. I now intend to sell this bass myself, and wish to offer it to Club members first. A photo and list of mods and upgrades are provided in post #3804. It is in even better condition now than before, as it has undergone a recent fret leveling and polishing. Any interested parties are very welcome to PM me about it. Lacking any interest from the Club, I'll just go ahead and post an ad in the TB Classifieds.

Man I LOVE that one.
It's THE inspiration for my (still upcoming :woot:) mods on my Bronco and Mini.
The gold Squier logo (like the current Affinity and CVs) especially sells it.
The plain black logos just scream "cheap" to me and with how nice the Mini is it deserves more.
