Despite my hatred for Star Trek Discovery, new Pike had more character and depth than old Pike ever did. It’s not really a fair comparison since old Pike had one episode and another where he’s a vegetable, but still.

Star Trek, well most Star Trek, is smarter than Star Wars. ST is science fiction. SW is space fantasy. Star Wars just happens to take place in space. It could just as easily all be on one planet. Space and space exploration is an essential part of Star Trek. The world is much bigger and draws out more meaningful conversation.
Thank you...
Life long Star Trek fan...
Never seen and never liked Star Wars...

Planets could be countries in Star Wars. Light sabers could be swords. The fact that it takes place in space with aliens and robots doesn’t add anything deeper than surface level. It’s fluff. Alien culture, different planets, different realities, all of the cosmos is an essential part of the stories told in Star Trek.

I reckon you nailed it.

I recently developed an interest in Star Trek art prints. I was able to score a few awesome sales prior the holiday. Here's a few of the pieces that can be shown here. As a life long Trek devotee and practicing homosexual, oddly enough I was not aware that Star Trek gay erotic art was a subgenre but sure enough it is. I discovered this on ebay! :D Those will be hung in the bedroom.

I agree mostly. I do however think that the planets, lightsabers, etc are essential to making Star Wars what it is. You could explore many of the themes of Star wars in a traditional fantasy setting, but then it wouldn't be Star Wars.

What I think you may be pointing to is the kind of exploration each delves into.

Asside from some heroic quests and "Heroes Journeys" the exploratory aspect of Star Wars is almost exclusively of an internal, spiritual, and relational aspects.

On the other hand, as you rightly point out, the exploratory aspect of Star Trek is inter-planetary, scientific and cultural. There are spiritual aspects of course, but they take a back seat to the others.

Notable areas they both interact with is war and politics.
