I was watching an episode of TOS earlier--and it stuck me how pretty much most of the actors in it are no longer with us.
(Of the main ones Shatner & Takei --it was season 1--so no Chekov yet. Nimoy, Kelley, Doohan, Barrett are gone-and probably most of the others)

TNG, DS9 and Voyager seasons had 20+ episodes. What do the new shows have, 10 or 12? I’m sure it’s about the budget, and laziness, and getting the product out as fast as possible to give people a reason to pay for it.
All shows older than 15 years have 20+ episodes for Seasons. The fewer episodes started when the main cast of "Friends" demanded and got a million dollars per episode that seasons started getting shorter because other lead actors started requesting more per episode.
With more money being paid per episode to the Main Actors the budget only allows for so many episodes to be filmed. Episodes then get cut instead of lowering production quality.

Now it has become normal to do 10, and I think it is more the quick and laziness these days. Faster they are put out the faster they can generate money.
It takes too much time energy and money to produce 26 episodes a year, these 10 will make the people happy.

True. And with streaming and seasons coming out all at once, it’s a different landscape. I remember when tv show seasons took a year. Now a show can be around for three years and have seven seasons. TNG was on the air for seven seasons and seven years.
