The Strap Snob Discussion Thread.

that's it. lol.. I worked in a leather store, and on a farm.. but not with sheep.. lol

haw! raw fleece is pretty wild to experience in hand lol, it's full of lanolin and plant bits but also this sort of cakey sort of sweat product called suint and of course poo tags.

if I wanted a cushioned pad i'd look for shearling too.

when I start my western swing band i'll make a bullwhip style corded leather strap with a generous sliding pad. black, to match my stetson! cheers haha

I like the Moody 4" leather strap for a fancy option and they are of the utmost quality but honestly, after having expensive straps from many different makers, I actually prefer the 3" wide Levy cotton adjustable straps. They're very lightweight and flexible, they have some give, they distribute weight very evenly, they're durable, and they're very affordable compared to leather. I have eight of these with matching Straploks for all my basses.

I’ve had the same experience. I own some really nice straps, but once I got onto the levy’s cotton ones, I’ve put them on most of my basses.
The are so flexible and comfortable.
I also like that there are no metal bits to bang against the bass.

I had a coupon gatering dust so I sprung for an El Dorado Vintage Plain Model

Nice strap, I'm digging the minimalism.

Probably won't break in during my lifetime.

Never be as comfortable as my ancient black one like the one @Petethebassman poasted that somebody made for me back in the day.

I bought one of their suede ones, love it.

Just curious. The cotton strap link above is for 2” wide straps. Do they make them in 3” as well?

The Levy's page shows the color and width variations. They are made in 2" and 3" widths.

Yes! I forgot to mention that as well. The only bit that could bang the instrument is the plastic buckles but I've never had any issues with them marring a finish.

Get a wide suede strap padded with memory foam, whatever it is you are getting.

Mine is a lowly Harley Benton, but it's not my money, so if you need it to be of some hipster boutique brand I am sure there are similar options in that kind of price class as well.

I’m a recent Revo strap convert. After trying leather, neoprene of all different widths for years, i figured I’d give these wooden straps a shot. Really has a different feel from fabric straps. The bass stays in place better and feels solid on your body but it can still glide along your shoulder. It makes might slightly neck dive basses not neck dive but it doesn't pull down on shirt fabric like suede or neoprene. And Unlike some leather it isn’t too slippery either. Just a great strap that looks exquisite if you like pretty woods or you can always grab the black one. I use the Gordo model.
I've not heard of these before, but - I must say - they look fantastic! 😁

I shall definitely be trying one. Cheers! 👍
