Thanks. The body grain is terrible...not much to speak of and the pattern wasn't matched when it was glued together.
So I used a different technique when applying the stain...like sponge painting. It covered the mismatch but left it looking more natural. I alternated between oak and mahogany stains...and then I airbrushed a combo of ebony and mahogony around the edges.
