The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Neptunium has a eq stack and remains clean all the way up.
I prefer clean. So, does this mean that Neptunium can be dialed in to sound just like the Finally (when set to a clean tone)?

Also, I already have an Elementary so I have any given gain setting that I would need covered.

I guess the next evolution would be a More & DI combined. Just thinking out loud here. Any thoughts as to what that *imaginary* pedal could be named?

Any chance of a short demo vid any time soon Nathan? Congrats on the pedal. looks fantastic man!
I discovered how to reamp through my HX Stomp today, so I threw up a few sample riffs with some basic EQ adjustments on the Neptunium here:

B = Bass knob
T = Treble knob
LC = Low cut active

The dirt samples are a little rough since I just got this board together yesterday.

It's called Furthermore. It's been in the works for a while. You can find mentions of it throughout the thread. There used to be a "coming soon" page on the Sushi site, but I don't see it now.

Nep came two days early (!) I haven’t had a chance to experiment a ton yet, initially I’ll use it as another EQ path, switching off the Para entirely in certain situations. Definitely brings a richness and depth.

EDIT: Thumbnail came out way screwy, but the pic seems ok when selected.

What's the tone differences of the Finally vs the Neptunium?

I have the same question. I love my Finally.
The finally has a rich compressed high end harmonic character to it like most gain and volume tube circuits. It can be dialed in, clean to nasty, essential like a tone knob IME.

The Neptunium sounds to me like the Line 6 HX Stomps Regal DI. So I guess Nathan nailed the Noble vibe with this one pretty damn close. It is very clean and will never break up.

I’ve spent quite a few hours with the Neptunium and it sounds and plays great with my other gear.

USPS was running late but got my Neptunium today. Spent a few hours with it and so far so good. It sounds a tad different than my Nobelium, subtle for sure but my Nobelium has NOS RCA tubes and a Jensen transformer, so it's not apples to apples.

At a show, no chance you could tell the difference so the Neptunium It is going on my board and the Nobelium will be hooked up for recording

Thanks Nathan!

I’m with ya. I went to pick it up from Nathan today and checked it out for the last two hours.

It is replacing my finally. I wanted something to be able to adjust eq at the very end of my chain, instead of mild OD, that’s what the UA is for. I have a bunch of fest gigs in the next two months, so this will be getting put through its paces. Thanks again Nathan!

Almost the same exact reason for myself.

If the Finally is equipped with a 12AU7 tube then sure. If not, then I'd imagine that Neptunium's compression at higher volume would be hard to replicate with the Finanlly.

Spent a little time with my Neptunium. Took a stereo feed from my Stomp and sent the right side through a Walrus Audio Canvas and the left through the Sushi Box.

On the P one is Canvas, one is Neptunium w/ EQ.

On the warrior one is Canvas, one is Neptunium flat, and one is Neptunium w/ EQ.

See what your ears tell you. I think it's pretty obvious, but I laid it down.

Neptunium blind tests

Feeling extremely tempted by the Neptunium, but I'm still so incredibly happy with my handwired v1 Finally... ignoring the ability to adjust Treble/Bass and HPF, does the Neptunium give any significant sound/character difference versus my (5751 equipped) Finally set clean?
Coming from a finally V2 w/ a 12au7....

The finally was more "colored" for lack of a better word. The neptunium is fuller. But we are talking very minor differences. Like very minor. Pushing each the finally had much more variation available to do more of that "tube thing," especially with higher gain tubes than the 12au7. The neptunium just keeps getting louder with the same sonic signature. It doesn't drive, but whatever you're sending it too might start.

The EQ really shines with the neptunium though. The bass knob comes on very quickly and heavily. But using the HPF with a heavy boost of lows kind of works like the Pultec truck in that it gives you a nice bump without becoming boomy. Plenty of detail available on the high knob.

If you want a very clear and clean full bodiedb sound with the ability to tweak the EQ get the neptunium. If you want to get something with a little more character of it's own and the ability to pump that character a bit more get the finally.

But honestly, you can't go wrong with either and both work extremely well for what they are.

Thank you! That was very insightful and helpful... haha, I think I can stop worrying about wanting a Neptunium now and return my Sushi Box cravings back to the More that I've been waffling over for the past year.
Out of curiosity, do you suppose putting a More before my Finally might add some of that "fullness" that the Neptunium has?

I have no idea. Only ever owned a finally and a Neptunium. I'd love to try more if anybody wants to send me some. Lol. I'll gladly throw up comparisons.

I kinda like doing dumb little experiments.

I tested running a More into Finally v2 at the end of my board and it does round out the tone compared to the Finally alone. Though I'd say the best bet would be to run a preamp/EQ before the Finally if you're looking for some control over how that sound is being "filled up".

I used a ParaEq MKII Deluxe + Finally on my mini board for a bit and it's an amazing combo. I bumped up the low shelf a bit, then set the low Q rather large and boosted around 80Hz to taste. Bumping up the high shelf just a touch was also nice to bring out a little more clarity. I've also found the Global EQ on my HX Stomp will do a decent job, but not really close to the ParaEq for shaping.
