The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Are you running it thru the 1/4"? If not, you're not getting both tubes. If so, hit the xlr out to eliminate one tube.
I am going through the 1/4", I've only used the Nobelium as a DI once but I don't know what the FOH guys thought of it since it was a festival gig and they had plenty on their hands.

However, the Sushi Fairy came early today and I'm currently using my new Neptunium on the gig. Sounds pretty good!

I’m curious of the difference between the Neptunium and the Nobellium.
Nobelium XLR output = Neptunium. The exact same circuit. I literally copy/pasted it in my design software and just removed the 1/4" output section. Metal film resistors and film capacitors in both. Should be pretty damn near the same thing tonally, as that was the entire goal.

On an unrelated note, @Sushi Box FX the anodized exterior for the Neptunium was a fantastic idea, it makes the item feel rugged and the tactile-ness is a physical aesthetic plus. I would consider using it for future pedals as well.
Noted. It's actually a "hammered" finish powdercoat, but I agree I do like the way it feels. I used it once for a personal project and decided it would be a good fit for Neptunium.

Neptunium came in yesterday right as I was about to leave for a gig. Took my Shift-Line Olympic off of my board and put the new DI on and it did not disappoint. Love the eq, incredibly musical especially while engaging the HPF and our FOH engineer loved the way the bass sounded coming through the mains. Stoked to continue to play with it more. I did notice something interesting about mine that I don’t know if I’ll ever need to do this, but if the quarter inch volume is dimed, the DI cuts out; don’t know if that’s normal, but I doubt I’ll need to have volume maxed out on both outputs

Straight from Señor Sushi himself,

"That sounds about right, the two volume controls are going to get a bit interactive when one is dimed since they feed off the same source and don't have a buffer. The same thing happens with Finally, but Finally's 1/4" output is hotter than Neptunium's so it probably isn't very common for anyone to completely dime it."

Thank you for the clarification! This thing sounds so good, so stoked to continue to use it

Interesting update; was using the Neptunium on a studio session this morning and found that if the 1/4" is plugged in you don't run into the issue of the DI losing volume or muting even if both volume knobs are dimed, only if nothing is plugged into the 1/4" out, so truly a non issue. Sounded sick in the session, ran it through an Avedis MA5 with my 58 reissue P-bass with flats. Did the job easily! I've had the Finally, which I really liked; but this sounds more round and full and special. I don't know, the Finally was really nice, and you could get the 12ax7 sparkle out of it which was cool; but the Neptunium has a certain weight to it that I've never had in a preamp/DI (of course I've never owned a real Noble). This is 100% worth the purchase and hope it becomes a regular part of the Sushi Box line as I'm kind of floored by how good this sounds even in comparison to the Shift Line Olympic which I've used and keep coming back to for years at this point.

Damn… now I have to wait 2 weeks for payday to place an order! 😍

My More arrived a couple of weeks ago... ...I like using the more near the start of the chain so that everything has that fullness of sound (plus I find quite a few pedals respond better to an ever so slightly hotter signal)
Thanks for the insight! Also, I totally agree with you on pedal setting like that; every time I try a new pedal or add/remove/rearrange my chain, the very first thing I do for each pedal is find "unity" output, and then raise it by about 5-10% because my experience also has been that almost everything in a chain likes just a little more push from whatever comes before it.

I'm clearing out my email inbox from the last week or so, and I can't tell you how many times I've had to copy/paste "I am taking a break from building at the moment so I am not currently taking new orders, but I expect to open ordering back up in late July or early August."

So if you were about to email me with that question, I would respectfully ask that you don't.

God I hate the UK customs service. Pedal arrived in the UK Friday morning, I can see on the tracking that it's just finished going through customs clearance (Tues afternoon) which means probably two days for Royal Mail to deliver me a card to say there's customs fees to pay (which they charge me £12 for the privilege of), and then another two days to deliver it. Why they don't join the 21st century and use digital communication is beyond me.

As you can probably tell, I'm getting impatient waiting!
