The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I'm getting tired of updating my bookmark for this thread, every day there is another page or two and my bookmark is always on the wrong page.
Is there any way to make a link to this page where you always land on the newest page ? I use Firefox if that helps.
Maybe I'm just getting old and cant keep up ? :roflmao:

Another way to do this is to copy the current URL, which is "https://www.talkbass.com/threads/the-sushi-box-fx-secret-society.1484792/page-1125" and replace the current page number (here, the "1125") with something arbitrarily high, ie: "https://www.talkbass.com/threads/the-sushi-box-fx-secret-society.1484792/page-2000" Set that as your bookmark/shortcut. It will go to the last page every time.

Try running the MORE in front of a distortion pedal. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
Or run More in front of a Lightning Boy transformer, such as the current 23Fe+. That is a golden combination. Use the More to boost a passive bass output, or just dial in the 23Fe+ saturation. It sounds so good, I wish Nathan would build More with an similar transformer and a toggle switch. Or maybe NO switch, because it really does sound that good.

Your picture is correct, those are the bits. Grand Slampegg is unfortunately difficult to work on because I insisted on cramming a bunch of features in and refusing to grow the enclosure, but if you're experienced and stubborn you could probably find a way to do it.

You can just barely see the 5M6 grid leak resistor peeking at you in between the input jack and the white ribbon cable. That will be a tricky mod as the only way to get to it is to remove the jack PCB, but the only way to remove the jack PCB is to remove the D.I. transformer. The only way to remove that is to desolder the pins, and you'll need to do it carefully so you can get it back on later.

Needless to say, I do not recommend this modification. But as with any of my pedals, if someone wants a non-stock input impedance, just shoot me an email and/or drop a note on your order and I can do it. I've put 10MΩ into a few dozen pedals by now.

I just got mine, and thought that 5.6MΩ would be ok. it isn't.
it sounds nice for electric bass though!

I'm not able to use a 5691, which is a big disappointment.
was the heater voltage set for 0.3a for 6SL7? I need 0.6a.
should I change the 78M06 to a 1amp 6V voltage regulator for getting more power to the heater?
thats pretty simple, if so.

thats a tight squeeze for additional bits in the HPF pcb. I'm sure theres a way though....
bringing this over to pedalpcb.

OK here goes. I must admit that as an amateur hack, it's intimidating to post here...even a 5 cent single riff demo, LOL. It's the Suffragette city verse riff....Fender J both pups & tone maxed-1st unaffected, then Dreamcatcher blue channel (12AT7, bass at 5, mids 10, treble 0), then DC red channel (12AT7, bass 5, mids 10, treble 8). The bass is way to heavy for my tatse as I realized afterwards that my HPF was off...kind of topical today ;), but it still gives an idea of the Dreamcatcher's range.

Heater voltage is set for 6V, but the 78M06 has a max output of 500mA.

Feel free to tag me on pedalpcb (vigilante398) if there's anything I can help with.
 
I am sorry if this has already been addressed in this big ol' thread, but @Sushi Box FX , does the actual preamp on the GS differ from the standard Slampegg?

I am using the Slampegg on the HPF side of my KMA Devices Tyler Deluxe as an always on "amp sim," leaving the LPF side of the Tyler clean. I don't need the DI or extra features of the GS, but would be interested in checking it out if it is a different circuit.
It is a different circuit. The EQ section is pretty well the same, but that's the only thing that carried over directly to the Grand Slampegg circuit.

Can you attenuate the level on the Underground Accelerator like you can on the Finally? Looks like there is a trim in there but want to make sure. TIA
Older UA's have a trim, newer ones have an instrument level/line level switch.
 
There is a very important piece of Furthermore that successfully worked its way into another unit (that we haven't talked about) that has been just about finalized and will be released in January, probably right around NAMM time because that's what companies do.

If it helps (or doesn't?) I think I have some pics of the Furthermore prototype that will at least give you an idea of what I plan for it to look like, I can throw those up for people to chew on.
Anything you can talk about? Or do we need to sit in agony until January?

Current model: input Z is 5.6MegOhm
Old version: 1Meg

Is that correct?

Would you be able to describe any main sonic difference between the old and new versions, e.g. is the new one a lot brighter, because of the raised input impedance?

There is also the upgrade from ceramic capacitors to film capacitors, that was hard to do in the little box. Also obviously the soft bypass switching which mutes the output for a handful of milliseconds to avoid popping into your amp/PA/etc. Not really a sonic thing, but a quality thing in my opinion.

Thanks for that information Nathan, would you change the capacitor or the resistor to change to 60Hz and what value would you change them to?
It looks to me that the resistor is 220k, would changing it to 330k do the job ?
If I wanted to change the capacitor what value would you suggest for 60Hz?
Lastly, what size are those tiny SMD components.

Without knowing what the circuit is around the HPF is and what effects changing the components might have downstream it is best to get your opinion on the best way to make the change on the HPF frequency.

The circuits are completely different. Smoke Signal was a direct clone of the Verellen Meatsmoke (which Verellen was not happy about). My approach to the design of Dreamcatcher was basically if I were to design a two-channel preamp from scratch, without knowing that the Meatsmoke existed, what would it look like. They're similar in the sense that both are two-channel preamps with a clean and dirty channel and Fender-style EQs, but even the voicing of the EQs are different.
