The form factor is a definite plus. Perhaps the Neptunium and Slampegg Bee will both make it to the C2CE side of the house some day.

It is a pretty versatile pedal for tone shaping, this version has an interesting saturation and break up so it can be used clean to warm thru crunchy to pretty clipped overdrive. I mainly use mine as a recording preamp just at the point of pushing before breakup at the end of a signal chain on my recording board. To that I will add a touch of room reverb to simulate B15 combo in a small room.

Gotta give you props— developing your own original compressor design that sounds good and functions well without fully understanding how the circuit functions and what the controls are actually doing is truly impressive.

I mean I know enough to read a datasheet and hook things together to make them work, but unfortunately the datasheet of this OTA device was not designed specifically for compression circuits so it has involved some guess-and-check work to get something that sounded good. That's also where the confusion came in with control names, the datasheet doesn't tell me "add this control here to control this" so I'm naming things what I think they should be named and apparently I'm not always right.

But I do feel like I'm at that weird spot in between zero understanding and full understanding, and I'm trying to keep going in the right direction so I can eventually feel comfortable in my knowledge of why things do what they do. Frankly I feel like my understanding of compressors right now is about where my understanding of tube preamps was when I first started doing those, so maybe I'm just a few years away. I don't consider myself an expert on anything, but there are definitely some things I'm more comfortable explaining than others.

As an amateur coin collector, I understand "mintages", so when I heard the announcement about the last batch of Nps I snagged one, knowing it was sure to hold/increase value.

I don't like it when companies say "this is it", then they go back on their word and resume production. I also dabble in Model Railroad (N-scale), and when Kato did a limited run of the Union Pacific "Heritage Series", some of those Locos spiked from $99 to over $400-500 on Ebay due to the frenzy. Then they resumed production, and you can now buy any of them for $99. I think BTC will do the same thing (revert to "issue" price).

Having said that, I think you should put Np back into the regular SB production line.

I have the Bassist & Mira. Both are good compressors. Bassist was my 1st ever compressor definitely a keeper simple, easy just works. Bought the Mira when I moved my Omnicomp to another pedalboard. The price was beyond right Scuba had a great review that sold me plus I wanted another optical comp. Cali76 v2 or SS is up next heck might be both considering a small headphone board. So, that's 3 Sushibox pedals on my 2025 pedal list.

Yep. Sounds snappy in a pleasing way. Sounds like it gives a slight warmness in tone which is nice. Really gives life to the sound of the bass.

Awesome! I think that shows the positive tone impact of the tube input buffer and gain stage plus the higher input impedance (which apparently is a common mod for Ross type compressors when used for bass) as I noticed you have the comp knob all the way down.

The Bassist has been my go-to favorite and I agree, it just works. Omnicomp is on my list to try, as is the PC-2A. I had a new version Diamond Comp/EQ that I didn’t get along with at the time, but now wish I’d kept. To me, it just wasn’t as good as the Mira, which I think is a fantastic comp. Also didn’t get along with the original Cali 76, but do want to try the new version. Of the comps I pictured, the 1176 is the one I have the least time on. Thus far it seems like it is probably better suited for guitar.

First impression of the Single Slice is really positive. I intend to do comparisons with other comps, just sorting out the technical side of it so it’s repeatable over time.

Got my Single Slice yesterday late and just now getting to opening up the package.

I have two other Sushi Box pedals, but bought both used, so this is my first time getting one straight from Nathan. The packaging is terrific! The Sushi Box packaging tape is very cool, and I love the white bag the pedal came in. Good bubble wrap cushioning inside. Nathan puts a lot of thought and work into his pedals, and he wants to make sure the pedals get to their new owners in good shape.

The psychedelic waves on the pedal look better in person than I thought they would. I will be hooking up the pedal and playing it straight into an amp input early this afternoon. More thoughts to come!

Well now that I've had a chance to unpack and try out the single slice, I can say it's a very nice sounding compressor to my ears.
It does the picking out harmonics thing really nicely, and seems to add a weightiness to the sound.
It seems much more of a smooth compressor than a sharp limiting type which I think goes with what Nathan was saying about it being more in the sustainer style.
I've only tried it out with a couple of preamps and one bass through headphones, so I'll be looking forward to testing it out through an amp and cab setup with some volume.
It's quiet too, the only time I encountered any noise was with the comp basically maxed and the output fairly high, and even then it wasn't all that loud, certainly better than some compressors I've owned.
It's a different sound to the markbass compressore I have, it actually sounds fatter for want of a better description, and it has a different feel to the Alma comp (diamond style) which is a little more upper midrange sparkle-y but doesn't have the big bottom end to it.
I'm thinking about trying both the Single Slice and the Alma on my main board to switch between for different flavours, but so far I have to say I'm very happy with it, chapeau to Nathan for another well designed pedal (as ever).
