The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Just scored an older MORE, was a custom shop model. What a great sounding unit! Makes me incredibly excited for Furthermore. I am, however; running into this pedal causing noise in my signal chain going into the Neptunium; does anyone know if this era of pedal needs the fix to play nice with other Sushi?

The MORE is a great pedal!

Check this link out.

Yup, usually sleep and money, the two things that get in the way of everything.

People ask me sometimes how I balance having a family with my otherwise busy schedule, but honestly that's the easy part. My workshop door is always open, and the kids know there is always an extra chair, a TV with netflix running, and an unlimited supply of snacks, plus they can always make an extra buck here and there helping out. I don't need perfect concentration, I'm happy to have company. If I'm working on pedals when my kids are awake, there is almost always at least one in there with me. Pedals are a big enough part of my life that it's just become a part of the whole family's life.

The tricky part is always balancing sleep with my brain.
Do the kids help with assembly and is that why some of my pedals say Bushi Sox?

lol jk, glad you got your family involved. It's good for them to see parents work hard and sets a role model standard. In fact, can you adopt me?

Thank you, I did email Nathan but I’ll see if I can track down someone with a soldering iron
I saw your email, sorry I haven't answered yet, it's been a day. I'm starting going through emails tonight, you'll either hear from me tonight or in the morning.

Hi Folks! Nothing inherently "wrong" with the tube in my Finally v2 but I'm doing a board overhaul soon and figured I might ask if there are replacement tubes that you folks would recommend as upgrades to the stock tube! I'm happy o drop a bit of coin on something quality, but let's say anything over $100 isn't in my wheelhouse
To answer that, you'd have to articulate what you're hoping to hear different; what kind of subtle tonal shift are you hoping to achieve with an "upgrade"?
(and are we correct to assume that the current tube in your Finally is a JJ 12AX7?)

I swapped out the stock JJ 12AX7 in my Space Heater (finally. without the DI) for a NOS Briar 13D5 12AU7. The gain reduction is obviously doing the bulk of the heavy lifting compared to stock. I did use the JJ AU before I bought the NOS and in all honesty there isn't a great deal of difference between the two.

The Briar is a touch warmer and more "musical". I discussed it briefly here I honestly think that for majority of ears, there are far more similarities than differences, but it is fun to roll tubes.

It's kinda like the "which vintage P bass pup" discussions, as long as it's a quality product just buy it! The differences you hear could be as much confirmation bias as actual differences.

I'd probably replace the tubes in my More with NOS brimars if they ever needs replacing but JJs, GE, EHX etc are all gonna be much of a muchness.

Buy a couple of different brands and see where you land!

I've got a couple of screen grabs that I believe @havnjero posted a while back with tinal descriptions of different brands which might help you identify what you're looking for.
I'llntry and dig them out later but I've got a bad case of jetlag after travelling for 42 hours back from Vietnam yesterday!

You've gotten a lot of good answers, but I'll add that 12au7s are relatively cheap for preamp tubes. So if you want to start experimenting with tubes, just buy a couple new old stock tubes for like less than $20 each. You really don't need to spend much. And it is about experimenting: we're talking about minor nuances, not objectively measurable improvements.

If you have a pedal where you always have the gain or volume cranked right up then I would recommend a tube with higher gain, also if you have to keep the gain or drive or volume turned right down then get a tube with less gain.
I prefer it when I can keep the gain, drive, volume at about 12 o'clock with normal use because it gives me more adjustment room.

Exactly. Well said, Tassie!

Thirded, with them at noon the Space Heater with a 12AU7 (Brimar 13D5) it sounds great, my sweet spot is Gain at 2:35 and Volume at 10:45 . I've also adjusted the internal trim pot down a bit (around 60-70% if i remember correctly) just to tame it down a bit as even with the 12AU7 in there it's still very hot with the volume dimed.

To be honest if i ever came across a 2nd hand Space heater i wouldn't mind rolling in 12T/Y/V7 tubes or maybe even the 12B type vales and see what they produce, to use it as a drive pedal rather than as a tone sweetener like I currently do.

I used to have emails turned on for this thread, but I check in here more often than I check my email anyway, plus I get way too many emails as it is.
