The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Nothing huge, but Venus Z has now been swapped over to all film caps in the signal path like just about everything else now, and I also added a dry/pre switch for the 1/4" output in addition to the dry passthrough jack. This changed the layout a little bit, and bumped the price accordingly.
Any noticeable effect on the tone?
Also, what is the tube doing in the Venus Z? A single gain stage and buffer?

Cheers dude, I can find them online but help me understand what the numbers mean? Is it 6/32 of an inch?
Here's a chart that shows the nominal diameter of the "numbered" machine screws, and as Nathan said, the 32 is Threads Per Inch (TPI). I prefer to work in Metric units (easier conversions), but have no problem working with either. It took some searching to find one with both (most are only in inches):

Curious if the UA folks have compared it to other fender TMB circuits and could compare contrast pros/cons.

On paper they’re all tempting but they also makes them difficult to differentiate between.
The tonestack responds how you expect it to, but I feel like there's more bass on tap with the UA. Most of my experience with that type of tonestack is on guitar though so I could be imagining things.

I have the UA, Dr. WattsonHW, Fv2, and Sunnday drive(model t preamp).
I expected the Sunnday and UA to sound the same clean but not quite. The hiwatt is my favorite tonestack easily. But, I like the Finally/UA eq bypass the most using RFE as my only eq. I wish elementary had the eq bypass. but that's only because I have the dr.w and can't really justify buying it otherwise.

Edit: i also wanna try the jc emerald but the Sunnday covers my needs for tube dirt. Venus looks cool but that really isn't my sound but maybe one day?

My complete set of numbered machine screws, with 0-80, 6-32, 10-24 and 10-32 examples on the lid:

I would say it's noticeable, otherwise I probably wouldn't have done it, but whether it will be audible in a mix is of course going to be up for debate.

Both stages of the tube are being used as a gain stage, one in front of the EQ and one after.

Playing with all three in the garage.
Caveat: what goes on in front of house I can not control, so only giving my observation from my amp. No bypasses or hpf engaged. Started my test with a StingRay 5 H.

The Finally with 12AU7: has the most character of the bunch. No distortion, just a bit of hairy chest, or grunt.

The More: definitely still has warm tube character, definitely different than going straight into a solid state amp, it adds fullness to every note and natural compression. Not quite as grunty as Finally, but surprisingly more than it was made out to be.
While this isn't a DI, I had been using it to add juicyness to a class d amp...and it does!

The Np: it's clean-clean-clean. Less round tone and definitely less girth than either my Finally or More, but the highs are glassy and pronounced like what I get from my other full-tube Mesa amps.
I find the hpf too extreme, so will never use that. On last week's gig the amount of low end in my in-ears was just fine, if the foh wants to high pass he can do it at his board.
Plugging a passive Jazz, I left the volume set as is and bring the two tone knobs up to get the Jazz to match the StingRay volume. Bass knob only needs to be nudged up to roughly 9:00 from flat, however treble knob has to go to 2:00 to match.

They all sound good! But depends on what you're looking for in the end; grunt or clean.

I don't use the pedals together in my situation. My More stays in the case with the class d head and is only used when I bring that particular amp out. As mentioned, I also have tube amps, so see no need to use it for those.

The Finally I had been using it for my other gig, which is ampless and I have a different pedal board for, with just a few basic pedals, so I really do love the amp-like character of the pedal.

This is an excellent overview. I hope people find it useful. And I agree with Mike's assessment - that's why I personally went with the Neptu. I will mention however, that the hpf switch has two very useful applications. At least in my short experience. 1: If you're stuck in a boomy room, it's a great feature. 2: If you're recording a track where the drums & percussion are really owning a lot of the super low end, it can really clean things up in the bass department so you still have your spot carved out in the mix.

It's also nice to use the HPF and push up the bass EQ further on the Neptunium, to get it really warm but not booming.

Anyone else tired the Finally v3 as an early in the chain saturator?

I know it’s functioning more like the Underground Accelerator here, but the buffer on the 1/4’ out and the variable HPF is adding some magic when pushed into my down stream effects.

It reminds me of how some bassists use the JHS Morning Glory for some early chain mojo, but way better. Very cool.

Bonus: This also gives me the option to run a “clean” XLR to the board before my other effects.

My Space Heater is the first pedal in my signal chain.

I wanna try out an Edison and the Sherman at some point but from what I've read and heard I'm not missing out by any appreciable degree.

I love the Space Heater, and it does what it says on the tin. It gives that beautiful warm, open 3D (enter you own tube bingo word) tininess to the tone.

The 12AU keeps the gain in a sweet spot over the stock AX.

I actually bought it to push my Ampeg into serious dirt, the AX exceled at that.

To my needs now a simple tube pre at the front of my chain is essential.

If there was a practical why to install Nathan's on board tube pre I'd absolutely do it, but I'd need ateast 5!!

Yeah this is my first time trying it but it really makes a difference. Just had a session today and it was an instant improvement.

The neck pickup on my Jazz (Aguilar 60s pickup) is usually a little dark and woofy. But now it’s really popping in the mix.

Hey everyone, I’m new to this site, so I hope I’m posting in the right spot.

I have a question about phantom power.

I have a Sushibox Neptunium on the way, and I plan to have that replace my Radial Pro48 Active DI Box…

That being said, my sound guy typically turns on phantom power to the DI when I go to play.

I plan on mentioning the switch to him, but in the case that he turns on phantom out of habit, or happens to have it on when everything is booted up, could this damage the Neptunium pedal?

I don’t know much about how it all works, but it was a thought that came to mind.

Thanks in advance!
