She's still not generally into the idea, but that would probably be the only way I could do something Mongolian-themed without feeling weird. I speak the language and know the customs, and my wife says she thinks of me as Mongolian, but to everyone else I'm just some white dude.

Also as a fun note, Ghenghis Khan is the foreign spelling/pronunciation, his name in Mongolian is Chinggis Khaan.

Well… perhaps a pedal that has tuvan throat singing vibes?

I’m saying this a a slight jest, but it’s a really cool and unique style if anyone wants to learn about music for the sake of music. Then again, I have a soft spot for traditional music of all kinds…

Edit: perhaps a unique octave pedal/wah?

Why I like the Finally?

I have both the Nobelium which is very similar to the Neptunium and I now have a Finally.

If you keep the EQ flat then the Finally offers more options.

While I love both, currently I don't need an EQ at the end of my signal chain, however, the Finally has an adjustable hpf which I tune to whatever room I'm in... This keeps my bass tight without losing any or needing to boost it back up again it like I do with my Nobelium (and would if I had the Neptunium).

More than that, the Finally plays well with higher gain tubes... so sometimes with a 12AT7 [fitted by Nathan on request] I set the gain to just before break-up and then I use dynamics to shift in and out of breakup. But at the moment I went back to a long-plate 12AU7 and use enough gain to get some more tubeyness...

As you can see I have a thing for tubey sound... my lights dim when I switch this board on.

Can you have too much tube saturation?

Or if you ever do build the all in one pedal with every function you've experimented with, call it the Golden Horde.

Could call it the Pena.

For those that don’t know, Paul Pena was a blues guitarist in the 60s and 70s and originally wrote and recorded “Jet Airliner”. Later in life he discovered tuvan throat singing and went to Mongolia to perform with the singers over there.

There is a great doc called Ghengis Blues you can check out.

That reminds me, in response to the post where Mrs. @Sushi Box FX outlined the reasons that living in Mongolia would be challenging, I was gonna post: As usual, Mrs. @Sushi Box FX proves herself an insightful, deep-thinking, and wise woman...

Very easy. here are 3 possible excuses that come to mind:

1) convince yourself that it could replace both a "tubey sound providing" pedal and your current compressor, thus making the purchase a financial benefit (then, just keep them all)

2) realize 2 comps are better than one (one for overall / long-term dynamic stability, the other one for short term groove/punch with with faster attack and release)

3) make the bet that you can replace the big compressor with this cute smaller format comp', thus making room for an even larger number of new pedals

End of chain will give you some tubey goodness and light compression before you go to FOH or amp. Sounds like a win!

I did some tube rolling in my UA today. I tried a long-plate 12AU7 and a 12AT7 (both old, used, history unknown) and a fairly new JJ ECC803S (long-plate ECC83).

The difference in gain was immediately obvious. With the 12AU7 I could turn the Gain knob up most of the way before it started to break up. It stayed fairly clean up that point, but then got kind of fizzy, not my preference. The 12AT7 was better, still allowed me another "o'clock" on the Gain knob compared to the original JJ ECC83S but I don't know, it just didn't really do anything for me.

ECC803S, though... I've tried that particular tube in several amps and preamps and always took it out. It may finally have found its happy place. It has about the same gain as the ECC83S, but it didn't seem to get fizzy as abruptly, and maybe just sounds a little bit thicker in the low mids. I didn't try to A/B it with the ECC83S, I just left it in for some extended real-world testing.

I like circuits that respond to different tubes rather than trying to sound the same no matter what. :)

I will be certain to pass that along, she really is a great compliment to me. I'm a reasonably intelligent person in the academic sense, but I am extremely impulsive and don't always think things through. And now that it's almost mother's day in this time zone, it seems like a good time to mention that while she is taking a bigger role in Sushi Box now, she has always been involved in some way or another, and I think it is fair to say that Sushi Box would not have been able to become what it is today without her help. She really is an incredibly woman, and I'm extremely grateful to have her in my life.

Also a somewhat related development, since she's been working on building with me more recently, she's spending more time than usual in the workshop, so the workshop has been going through some changes. It's a lot cleaner that it usually has been, and this weekend I put new flooring in, so it's a lot more comfortable to work there now. When I get it all put back together I can post some workshop pics (which I don't usually do because the workbench usually looks like it was hit by a natural disaster).

My Single Slice is really nice and colourful, and that's just the tone, I think one would look really pretty next to your Finally V3 as well as filling up half of that empty space on your board.
Since when do we need an excuse to satisfy our Sushi cravings anyway ?

Just do it, go on, you want to.
