The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I wish I had the funds to purchase both and if I did I would probably keep both of them. Tubey goodness from the Elementary has me hook, line and sinker. Thinking more about running the first gear v1 into the More. But, I'm curious about running it into the loop of the Greenhouse. Decisions, decisions. The Finally has me gassing too. Lol.
At the risk of ruffling feathers, just be aware that adding another tube to your chain does not guaranty better tone. My ears have not found that running multiple tube preamps in series is beneficial, although I do like having different flavours available to use one at a time. YMMV.

yes, i think there can be a point of diminished returns, especially if you are not keeping gain stages in check.
my current board has a UA at the front and Finally at the end. i find that the UA provides enough saturation and tone shaping to help feed everything down-chain, the Finally is the sweetener at the end to help me fine-tune the gain/level before going to FOH. it took me a while but i found a nice range that works for pretty much all my needs.

i've added more Sushi to the mix before and it does sometimes get harder to keep everything in balance, but i usually chalk that up to me not knowing enough about signal chains and not having enough time/patience (and power sources) to properly dial in....

I'd like some opinions on if it would be beneficial to run a More into the Elementary or Elementary into a Finally one if one tube is enough.
In all seriousness, the only tube pedals I have on my personal board are a compressor and a preamp. Chaining a dozen tube pedals in a row is neat, but not practical or necessary. Running a More into an Elementary is a good way to add some clarity and extra harmonic content to the front end if you think that would help, but frankly the only reason I would run an Elementary into a Finally would be if I wanted a good D.I. output and/or some more gain from cascading the two tubes.

Despite the temptation to run multiple pedals in a signal chain there comes a point where there are diminishing results perhaps more so when talking tube based pedals. Balancing the complexities of gain staging and the push and pull of different tone control options can be very hit and miss. I do often have multiple options but in general will use one at a time sometimes a combination but rarely.

I have enough trouble just running my UA ahead of the preamp in my amps. I usually set the EQ on the amp fairly flat, with just minor tweaks for the environment (different rooms, outdors) and do the tone shaping on the UA and the basses themselves.

Thanks for the input fellas. Still would love a More, maybe run my first gear v1 into the More for light dirt and the Elementary for clean or More into Elementary for a little more umph. Good idea? Thoughts?

From what I've read here, More doesn't really break up, it's more of a clean headroom preamp to just give you more of whatever you run into it.
More -> Elementary sounds interesting, but i have not first-hand experience with those pedals, so not sure Watt it will sound like.

maybe others will chime in with More (and Elementary) first-hand experience.

Hello fellas,

I recently scored a Neptunium on FB Marketplace and I’ve been enjoying it, but I also have a sneaking feeling that something might be off with my unit. Wondering if anyone else has experienced the following.

- When I have the XLR out connected to my interface and I turn the 1/4” volume all the way up, the signal completely cuts off. This isn’t something I would do in reality, but it’s interesting.

- When the EQ is completely disengaged, it sounds like my tone is missing low end. It seems to have less low end, low mids, and gain than when I just plug in directly. A quick twist of the bass knob and it sounds great, but it does seem weird that my bass doesn’t sound like my bass through the Neptunium with no EQ.

I’m playing a passive p bass with flats if that matters.

Thank you!

This is an "issue" that was resolved in subsequent versions of the pedal with an independent buffer on the 1/4" output. There's nothing wrong, per se, with yours in particular.

As mentioned this issue is unique to the first version Neptuniums, and there is a fix. If you'd like to send it in you can reach out via PM or email and we can work it out.

And that is inherent to the EQ itself. Passive tonestacks like the one used here are inherently lossy, and set "flat" will drop the signal level approximately -32dB, and in the case of the Neptunium EQ there is an additional -3dB below about 1kHz. This is likely what you're hearing.

I hope this sticks around for a while. I'm in a spending freeze for a few months, but hope to pick one of these up...
I believe that there will be a lot of them available so it hopefully should be ok for you.
Personally I have to cut right back as well until I know what the bills are going to be for 5 days in hospital over the weekend.

But nothing is going to stop me from getting the latest PCB from C2CE when Nathan gets all the build docs and artwork finished, it's going to be a great one.
The C2CE shop also has a new completed pedals section where I think built pedals will be available for those that can't build their own, they can buy the finished thing, there are already Nobeliums in there but it says no stock until it gets going, I think they will be available soon though.
I think it's a great new addition to C2CE, I can't wait for the "pink" series of completed pedals to come out when the Sushi kids realize they can make some extra pocket money by building some C2CE pedals and selling them. I'm sure they will be carefully checked over by dad in the beginning before they hit the shop. At least I personally hope the kids do this since it would be a great learning experience for them.
Cheers
Mick
