The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Tube HPF would be nice for when taking my amps out. I use the DI out on them when I have them because they are tube based and it would just be HPF if needed on stage plus a little extra tubiness. Can’t wait to hear more about it.

Of course, there goes having an extra space on the board when I have my amps

Dont know if I'm familiar with this Sushi???

Oh right, I forgot I sent him that 😄 Christian (basspedalnerds on insta) is a super cool dude and checks out prototypes for me sometimes.

Status Meeting is so named because I was sitting in a status meeting at work and my mind drifted off (as it does often) and I started thinking "what's the absolute simplest D.I. I could make that would still be useful to a player?" I bounced a couple ideas around in my head, then when I got home I spun up a quick design and this is what comes out.

You've never heard of it because there's a big tonal and functional overlap with Finally, so I decided not to release it.

what’s the circuit based on?

looks interesting to me. C2C release perhaps?
It's actually not really based on anything. The HPF is the same variable filter found in Finally v3 and The Watt, but the preamp is nothing in particular. Part of the experiment was trying the same transformerless tube-based balanced output used in the C2C Tungsten project, so it's just one triode for the preamp and one triode for the phase inverter.

I have the Neptunium I love it. They will have to pry it from my cold dead hands before it comes off my board. 😂🤣

I am ready for “More” Sushi!

What would complement my Neptunium best, the Finally V3 or More V2 (2024 version)?

Any other Sushi I should consider?
Somewhere above Nathan said he put the Finally V3 on sale because he wanted every player in the world to have one, so I did my part to reach his goal - mine arrived last week, but haven't tried it with Neptunium, yet ("Lab Rat" not in photo):

Isn't the Neptunium already a DI? Finally seems redundant and More V2 will have the variable HPF.

I just got my More (V1), which joins the UA on my pedalboard. I like it even though it's hard to say what More does... it definitely does something... more. I plan to try some slightly higher-gain tubes in place of the 12AU7. If I don't find something in my box o' tubes that satisfies I'll probably order a JJ 12AY7 and 5751 from Eurotubes eventually

Other Sushi to consider: I really like my UA with an ECC803S, to my ear it has a smoother, less obvious overdrive and some compression.

Yes, all three are pre-amp/DIs, so probably redundant. ;)

I bought "Lab Rat" when I heard they were going away (1st Sushi), then "Neptunium" when I heard they were going away (2nd Sushi), and was lucky enough to get into the first batch of 20 "PMLEs" (3rd Sushi), then Nathan wanted me to have a "FinallyV3" and now I do (4th Sushi). Three are pre-amp/DIs, but with different features (EQ/HPF), and all are awesome. :D

I have both a Finally and a Neptunium and see them as alternatives to each other. Which do you want at the end of your chain?

But a More does add ... uh ... you know ... more. The Tarantula Fuzz or the Single Slice Compressor are also ones that aren't preamp/DI alternatives. Have you looked at them?

I will I will keep

I will keep the Neptunium at the end of my chain for sure.
