That's cool, but I have hplp filter on my board. I'm sure the hpf can be switched off, am I right? I'm curious about the improvement of the tubes and is the paint scheme the same as v1?

Basically the same as More v1 but with a NOS 12AV7 in the "preamp" position and a switchable HPF. Still a sparkly enclosure, obviously.

We actually tracked down some cyan LEDs that fit the color scheme beautifully, I'll have pictures of that later.

I love the tone I'm getting out of my UA, but I find it really difficult to dial in the edge of break up. I'd like to get less breakup, but still have it available if I dig in. I also have the gain quite low. My rig is set up with the Alembic'ed Starfire going stereo into an F2B, mono out into the UA for extra grit, especially since the F2B is so clean.

Yup, swap to a lower gain tube. You'll be able to use the knob range more. Maybe a 12AT7 for starters

Still thinking about it, but it's not developed enough of an idea that a tentative design exists yet.

I played a radio gig yesterday and the house engineer mixed the bass obnoxiously loud. Makes for a cool showcase of how good the Finally v3 sounds. The heavy radio compression totally squashed it, but you’ll still get the idea. P bass with flats straight into finally

As someone who takes an interest in how bass sounds, obviously I like how out in front it is in the mix. But I will also say that in reggae-ish genres it's perfectly acceptable to mix the bass out pretty heavy as well. Sounds great, thanks for sharing!

I like how they mixed the bass in that song, the bass is the heartbeat of the song, it keeps the song grounded even when it got a bit chaotic towards the end.
If you remove the bass then the song would fall apart towards the end because that's what keeps the order and everyone is just circling around that beat.
I love it.

I don't find that obnoxiously loud at all. In this kind of music, everything rides on the bass. Exactly how it should be.

I think the mix is great actually and you can hear the finally doing its thing.

A vocal preamp??! I'm getting into recording and production and at some point I will be looking for tracking preamps - the usual suspects are tranformer-flavoured like the Neve 1073s etc. Are you're thoughts on a pedal leaning to that side, or more of an effect? Thanks

Leaning more towards a preamp, not looking at doing vocal effects processing.

I have a JJ ECC803S (long plate ECC83, slightly less gain) in my UA and I like it a lot. It seems to saturate more gently than the original JJ ECC83S. I can set the gain knob a little higher than before, and it gives more of a compressed feel. It's a very "tubey" sound in front of another tube preamp (Arkham Zephyr) being run warm but clean, then into a solid state power amp that's kept well away from clipping (totally transparent).

The difference is that in The Watt I keep the HPF at the front before the compressor, whereas running the pedals separately puts the HPF between the compressor and the preamp. I'm thinking there may be something there, and I told Tom I'd do some testing at home (I obviously have both pedals) and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Did you get around to testing?
