I just noticed the SBVT-II after disappearing from the website for a couple days is back, but it’s now known as the [redacted -ii]. My guess is a cease and desist letter was received from Yamaha/Ampeg. As a lawyer, this infuriates me. They have absolutely no claim, there is no infringement as they do not own the name SBVT or VT for that matter. All they’re doing is throwing their corporate weight around to try to squash the little guy. However, those who know, know, and whatever it’s called it is still awesome. Just remember if you think about buying another Ampeg product how they treat innovators they see as a threat. [disclaimer: I do not know for a fact that a cease and desist letter was received, it’s just my educated guess based on my experience and it really pisses me off.] but as they say… Success is the best revenge, and there is a lot of success coming the way of sushi box based on the quality and innovation we are seeing.

Agreed I’m not a lawyer but work in IP… the claims I figure they would lean on is likely hood of confusion and or trademark dilution… unfortunately it’s way more cost effective to comply with the cease and desist… last thing you want is spend a ton on lawyer fees only to lose and get a willful infringement damages tacked on…
After doing some research on the Single Slice compressor, I've gathered that it's not a big squash but more of a compressor with controllable sustain. How is it at keeping peaks, spikes in check and leveling off the signal from the bass being played through it? Can anyone who uses or has experience using one give me some thoughts or advice on the SS. Thinking about purchasing one even though I have other compressors.
Yes, I and would have given the same advice. The 'we have more money to spend on lawyers than you and if you dont cede to our demands, we are going outspend you until you comply." is very effective. Some business onwers get stuck on 'but I'm right' and while they are, its not about justice, its about money and power. I just hope they are satisfied with the name change and that is not part of a settlement to let him sell exisiting inventory under the redacted name and then sunset the product for good. If so, I may need to buy another as a backup. they are on sale you know.....

I honestly don't take it personally, and it's actually kind of cool that Sushi Box is big enough that a company that big is aware of my existence at least to some degree. [redacted ii] and [redacted b] are just temporary, and this experience has frankly given me a welcome opportunity to reevaluate these designs and decide what I want to do with them long-term.
The circuit of [redacted ii] was about 90% true to the original, but [redacted b] had gotten to the point where it was maybe 30-40% true to the original circuit, and at that point why bother leaning on another brand's name at all?
So it was a little stressful, but I'm fortunate to have a lot of people smarter than me in my life that helped me through dealing with it, and although I think it was a gray area of "fair use" and there may have been grounds for a fight, I tried to err on the side of caution and comply in good faith to the furthest extent I reasonably could.
I consider myself a compressor novice so take this with a grain of salt. Where I have my Single Slice dialed-in, it does a nice job of centering the sound and keeping it between the ditches, so to speak. I don't tend to play in way that generates big spikes, but it does seem to do an admirable job tempering some more volatile pedal outputs.

The SS is very noticeable to my ears in a full band mix but probably not to the audience. It’s a feel thing. I notice it leveling out my playing and adding sustain but also punch and something going on with the low mids…fat and syrupy (?)…maybe that’s the tube. It also rolls off the highs a bit so my passive tone knob stays all the way up. It’s not a transparent effect, it has a voice. To steal a phrase from Mike Watt…it changes how I work the bass.
I’ve had amps with built in comp knobs (Trace Elliot, Hartke) that fit the “tone suck” description. The SS is an enhancer.
So Greenhouse is on sale, too — as it apparently is not "redacted", are there plans for a V2 or has it just not reached that much of an audience, or are you just being even "More" nice than usual?

I know it hurts me too… which is why I run both the Cioks DC7 and Sol underneath, because at times there are more than 7 tubes in my signal chainTubes and energy efficiency is taboo and should never be talked about at the same time.

I've read that review and kind of leaned me toward the single slice. How do you think it would work in front of a more and elementary and maybe a finally v3. Would it work or too many tubes? I'm looking at a pedal chain of the single slice, more, elementary and finally v3.

What do you use the Sol for?
It's a lot of tubes and will need a lot of electron flow. Whether or not it's too many is a matter for your ears. That said, remember while sampling/ testing the effect of pedals be careful to 1)do A/B comparisons varying only 1 thing at a time & ALWAYS equalize volumes, because louder with bass is always apt to sound "better" due to the way our ears/ brain work and 2)see if you can emulate what a pedal is doing simply by changing the eq on your bass and/or head and/or other pedals in the chain. Unless you take these measures, you won't truly know what the pedal is actually doing and whether it's "necessary" to get your target sound. Recording samples is a very useful tool. I found that More and Single Slice sweetened my tone in pretty much the same way my Glass Butterfly (now DC'ed) does, simply by adding some "airy" high freq sweetness around 3K. I kept the GB and flipped the others. Keep in mind the more tubes you have in your chain, the prettier your board will look, and the greater the likelihood of encountering noise issues. Your mileage may vary

I don’t have the other pedals to try. My preamp pedals and amp head emulate tube sounds but the SS is the only legit tube in my chain.
The most I've ever had on my board at once was 12 tubes, and I actually damaged a Cioks DC7 with that. I currently only have 4 tubes on each of my boards: guitar board has two Black Eyes, and bass board has Single Slice, Black Eye II, and Venus Z.Keep in mind the more tubes you have in your chain, the prettier your board will look, and the greater the likelihood of encountering noise issues. Your mileage may vary
