Here is the board with my new Sushi acquisition:

I didn’t realize how large the Ernie Ball VPJR tuner was! But it does fit in the pedal train bag, just hangs over the edge of the board a bit.

Yes, it is exactly what I was after. I was torn between the Finally and the More. I may still add a More before the punchline The Finally adds just a bit of tubey goodness and the HPF helps in FOH.

Punchline into the Finally is an excellent idea. I have both - might have to give it a whirl sometime.

Ever since I've sold my SVT3Pro I've missed that tube sound, but not the weight. I've always wanted a tube pre but not a rack mount. After some research I stumbled on Sushi Box. Now which one do I need?

I'm narrowing it down to the Finally V3 or the redacted ii. A.I. said I should consider The Watt.

My scenarios:
I like to keep things simple.
I'm not into overdrive or fuzz.
I like the idea of running into the pre and sending that to the effects return to bypass the head if I want.
I'd also like to run it before the instrument in on the cheap TC Electronic amp when needed since it has no effects return.
I want to use this for recording DI and/or with a cab.
I have a VT Deluxe that I hardly ever use, I use it for front of house on some gigs.

My amps:
Ampeg PF350 (used for recording) sounds good mic'd to my DIY 12" cabs.
Ampeg Venture 7 -gigging. I use this with my 2 PF-115HE cabs, or 2 of my 12" diy cabs for smaller gigs.
TC Electronic Thrust BQ500 -lightweight combo with my DIY B&C 12CL64 12" -I'll probably make another cab for a super lightweight full rig.
Ampeg combo unit that I don't like the tone so much, but sounds good on my P bass, and too modern on my Jaguar short scale with flats w/EMG geezer butler passive pickups..

Anyways, I dig the tube sound, and play funk with flats (I never slap). I would like to run through the effects return when possible, when not possible then in-front of the amp. I also want to use this for recording DI and sometimes with a cab.

I like the idea of the three tubes in the redacted ii similar to the SVT3 Pro. I also like the eq function on the redacted so I can bypass the amp pre if wanted. Plus that seems like I would be able to get my tone with the preamp rather than tweaking whatever amp I use.

My free 02: If you need a DI in this pedal then Redacted or Finally. If you don't need the DI and all you're after is clean tubularity then Underground Accel or Elementary. UA uses a passive Fender 3 band tone stack and Elementary a 3 band HiWatt. These 2 can overlap a lot and be adjusted clean through dirty to taste, but in general ...Elementary has a bit more upper mid available and is always gently scooped vs UA which has more inherent booty to my ear. I love and use them both. The Watt is a Finally + Single Slice compressor in 1 box. I don't think A.I. is your friend in this instance.

If you dig the SVT Ampeg tone probably best to get the redacted SVT Sushi pedal.

I’ve been on this for a while. Ive got elebendy bazillion other options. This is pretty cool. Im cleaning up here, tryna categorize, left a spot to audition the Mayday. I wanted to lessen the variables and run into a familiar amp, in this case, the Arkham UltraLinear. Ive got a crapton of these 1590 gizmos.

THIS iteration, the Mayday into that little Becos continues to make me smile. I keep waiting for it to disappoint so i can get back to cleaning up her living room, feel better about myself. Do something constructive, but i cant. The flesh is weak. This sounds pretty sweet.

1. I haven’t gotten to play it yet!! Grrr my bass is at Mike Lulls, getting some love n affection.

2. As you can see, this is my setup for FOH direct in. (only a Broughton BBA isn’t visible),

MY QUESTION
Anyone ever change out preamp tubes in the Finally V3 for a Mullard 12au7? I’m down to spend the $$. It’s soo unfortunate cause I have like 20+ 12ax7 tubes from my days of owning an svt3 pro. I only have a ruby 12au7 and other jj ecc82’s.
I don’t wanna get higher gain, like a 12ax7 or 12at7, I just wanna hear people’s thoughts on audible difference using a more “vintage” voiced tube like a mullard 12au7 instead of the original jj ecc82

(That said, if anyone wants to experiment with 12ax7’s, I have Mullards, rubys, jj’s, mesa, tung-sol, solvtek and maybe a few others. Prob 15 unused perfect working order 12ax7’s. I just tone chased for days in my 20’s. So some of these are 15+ years old. Not reissues but originals)

Anyone ever change out preamp tubes in the Finally V3 for a Mullard 12au7? I’m down to spend the $$. It’s soo unfortunate cause I have like 20+ 12ax7 tubes from my days of owning an svt3 pro. I only have a ruby 12au7 and other jj ecc82’s.
I don’t wanna get higher gain, like a 12ax7 or 12at7, I just wanna hear people’s thoughts on audible difference using a more “vintage” voiced tube like a mullard 12au7 instead of the original jj ecc82

Some of us have dome some tube rolling and my experience was little to no difference from the 12Ax7 tubes I have in my collection* so returned all but one of my Sushi Box pedals back to the OEM JJ that were supplied. Those are the benchmark tubes that Nathan uses for desinging and tuning the circuits , plus they are readily available if for no other reason. Some reported that the 12ax7 broke up a bit more than what they were after and preferred a lower gain tube that will offer a bit more refinement or gain before break up - that is the reason a 12AU7 is in the later and current versions of the Finally. Some prefer a 5751 over the 12ax7 that does off a a differnt profile but that particular one was not the flavor I am after.

I have one of the original batch of the Underground Accelerator, v1 I suppose, that I did substitute a JJ 12ax7mg for the enhanced mid rrange that sounds better for my guitars and fretless bass.

* Several JAN as well as a GE and RCA and an old Groove Tubes that were formerly tried in my Bassman amp or mic preamps.

I’m specifically asking about different 12AU7s … not 12ax7’s lol. In this case I’m asking about Mullard’s because they arguably have a distinct character from JJ’s / Ecc82’s

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I want DI, and eq. Seems like the Finally v3 with EQ would be idea. However, I don't overdrive my tone, so I'm hoping I can get a clean tone from the Redacted ii. And as mentioned I loved my SVTiii.

The Redacted can definitely do clean tones. Much better than most Ampeg-a-likes that I've tried (which is quite a few, recently.)

Cool! That helps. I considered the Mayday, but would like some amp character (di to board/recording console/effects loop), so I think it might be the redacted ii.

Does anyone have any links to a demo of the redacted ii (sbvt ii)? I did see the Phil Man video, but wanted something a little more A/B and with and without a backing track/band.

Nathan does plan to come back here when time allows, for now he has set up a page on FaceBook for anyone that ventures over there.
Afterall he has made the commitment of being a commercial member for several years, not an amount to sneeze at for a small family operation.
