For Locust Star vs Lab Rat:

Locust Star-
Much more low end and overall thickness available.
DEAD QUIET. Even with Gain cranked.
Overall flavor seemed a little smoother and more refined on the distortion. (Could be good or bad depending on your rat tone needs.)

Lab Rat-
Not as much low end, still very serviceable for bass, but a little closer to a regular non bass rate overall for eq.
A bit more compressed sounding. (Seems to be common on the mini tube pedals vs the X that they are a bit more compressed.)
Much more snarl and bite than the Locust Star. I'd compare it to being a bit more like a Fuzzrocious Cat Tail/Rat Tail in that regard.
It sounds "angrier" and less "refined" vs the Broughton. (Depending what you want, this could be a very good thing!)
I wouldn't call it super noisy, but it definitely had a bit more noise as you crank the gain.

I need to give the Lab Rat a head to head against the Fuzzrocious when I get some time. Seems like a bit more of a Apples to Apples comparison.

this is my first Sushi Pedal. I feel like I’ve been following this thread forever LOL. I think I ordered this pedal in November if I remember correctly….

Anyway. Just super excited to fire this thing up tonight man I’m getting all sentimental. Hahaha jk. Just excited.

I'm probably going to add it myself with some wire confirmation from Nathan, if you want me to message you some shots I can. I'm always looking for ways to attenuate my signal with as many different things I use, I have a felling I'm probably going to need to do this

You looking for a comparison of the Lab Rat and Lab Rat X, or just general feedback about either?

I've got a regular minitube Lab Rat, and did some comparison with my Broughton Locust Star, but don't have the X version to compare to.

Do share your experience with both

The LS beat out the Volt Thrower so we'll see where the LRX stands soon enough.

It's getting tougher and tougher to keep (a) small pedalboard(s)... I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky.

Nice notes. It's been a LONG time since I had a Fuzzrocious Cat Tail. I remember it being very clanky, but maybe that was my overall setup at the time.

I didn't care for the Rat King either. Clanky as hell.

I'm sure it'd be glorious for some people, but I was never able to dial it in.
I've got a Locust Star on the shelf here somewhere, but for the amount of high gain stuff I'm doing these days (ie. none), theres no way I could justify having more than one Rat. lol

The Cat Tail had been my fav for "Rat in biker leather jacket with spikes, a mohawk, and brass knuckles."

The Rat Lab is a strong contender for that second category.

I'm the opposite. I just got a Dunwich ODB and I keep trying to make it sound like a rat and it won't. I may just keep both the LRX and LS because rat circuits are my favorite.

That's an accurate analogy, from my recollection. Whichever is better just depends on what you're after.

I also love Rats, thus the desire to stick a tube in one. It was definitely designed as a guitar pedal and modified to make it better for bass, but I absolutely understand the Locust Star being smoother and more responsive in the low end.

The first time I played a bass through a Lab Rat (literally just a few months ago) the first adjective that came to mind was "brutal."
