1590BB are great, that's what I have Deep Dish, Sunnday Drive X, Black Eye X, and Dr. Wattson X in. The biggest problem is the D.I., the transformers are too tall. Ideally I would want them mounted on the board for stability, but in the interest of size it's looking like I may have to figure out some other way to mount them.

How much more depth do you need? You could add a light plate, but you'd have to remove material around that area, and that would add more time to your build. Or, you could machine the desired size and thickness that you need. It's basically a clear spacer, and when you add an LED or two, it will light up.

They don't actually have LEDs in them, you drill holes in them and stick LEDs in, so the LEDs do whatever they were wired to do. I used them a few times several years ago. The big problem with light plates is that it's another step of assembly, and the way LEDs mount to it you either need long wires or LEDs that slide in and out of the holes so the user can open it up to change the tube. I don't think it's the right solution for this case.

I'm picturing a tube volume pedal. Heel-down = no signal passed through. Toe-down = zero gain change from input signal, whatever tube/resistors that required. Literally a gain-controlled tube-thru basically. Funny enough, that might actually sell...

Or a mute switch. Adding a tube to a mute switch might not be worthwhile.

I've fantasized about nearly this exact thing in a preamp pedal. The tube flavor would be added in through a knob and allow that channel to fluctuate between modern/ solid state clean with knob down, to full tube amp flavor with the knob up.

I've never seen this in a pedal, but a few amps/rack Preamps - Markbass LMT 500 and Eden Navigator to name two

Depends on how it's set up, but the way I'm looking at the envelope filter it would be similar topology to LA-1A or my tube tremolo; all-tube signal path, but the modulation part is done with solid-state devices.

So I just found out EHX already beat me to it with the Tube Zipper. Oh well, doesn't stop me from building one for educational purposes

Maybe you could mount it on top of the pedal with the leads going down into the box. This would add some height to the pedal but keep the box small. You could then add camel to the name since it would have a hump.

I had a Tube Zipper for a while some years ago. I had an absolute blast playing around with that thing. Somehow though, it never made its way into a live performance or onto any recording. So it was very useful for recreation, but I ended up selling it because it was a want and not a need. "Since when has that stopped you?" Well, since... family...money...you know.

Oh, I'm an envelope filter JUNKIE (tried or owned 39 or 40 filters so far!) and would TOTALLY find a use for an envelope filter with toobz!!! I've had my eye on a Tube Zipper for a while...

Tube envelope? So like, variable t00b gain into a variable-Q envelope?? Hot Tuna? Salmon Sweep? (the latter maybe needing envelope vs expression control like the Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe)
