Not a fan of the led ring or this suggested (boring) tiny red led but thats the joy of diversity we may hate what the other guy likes but if they happen to have options you don't like you don't have to buy them.

That's been a common comment. In talking to people about it, generally the people that are okay with it are younger players, and those opposed to it are ones that lived through the days of "glory tubes" where tubes were stuck in everything just for show with LEDs under/behind them to give the illusion of glowing, and that left a bad impression on a lot of people. I've mentioned this before, but that's why I don't offer orange LEDs, I prefer things like blue or green, colors that tubes would never actually be.
I always try to make everyone happy, and I would love to offer both as options, but that would require me to find a more elegant solution to the current LED mounting issue. I actually just had a thought as I was typing this comment, so I'll try it out and see how it goes.
On that note,
Your Deep Dish compressor is based on the Effectrode LA-1A.
Have you considered a stripped down version like Effectrode PC-2A?
You could use the same enclosure/layout of the Space Heater.
I've considered it, I'd love to take a look inside a PC-2A and see what they did differently, as I would be skeptical that they kept the same compression sidechain as the LA-1A.
It'd be interesting to see how much different they are.
In the description, they have internal trims for "attack" and "knee", and also use sub-mini tubes.

Well that's interesting, maybe it is the same sidechain? I mean you could basically make an LA-1A with a single tube if you didn't use any parallel stages, I wonder if that's what they did with PC-2A. I'm tempted to pick one up to take apart, but I just bought two pedals, so my fun-money budget is a bit low at the moment.
If anyone has one lying around they wouldn't mind letting me borrow for a week or two though, I would be grateful

I dont like the LED ring (at all) but I'm not adverse to moving the interior LED to somewhere easier to install. I dont think anyone is stuck on the ridiculous notion that the tube is glowing..

I haven't looked but I'm guessing you are using surface mount LEDs, seems to me it's in your favor to keep using those. For the cost of one ring you could afford two (one on each side of the tube).

The ring around the switch is too bright.

I like the ring. But I also like having the grill lit up.
The glow from the tube area whether it be thru the slats or around the tube ala the Edison is really sweet . I'd miss it for the ambiance and see no virtue in the lit ring concept . If you decide to do something else I'd say simply go with a standard red bulb set up as most pedals do . It helps to know it's actually on and ready to pass a signal for those of us who sometimes get dyslexic with our cable or battery management ! .... Kelly
I like the glow from the grill
Well I was thinking about starting a poll about this, looks like I accidentally already did 
So the good news for everyone (I hate saying no to people) is that my idea worked. Currently the LED is mounted under the tube, making it impossible to remove without removing the tube socket. I tried putting one behind the tube, where it could be easily accessible, and it still works, it lights the tube up enough to be visible.
So in an effort to make literally everyone happy (and because variety is the spice of life), when I get to my redesigns, I'm going to design the boards to handle an LED in both places, and you can choose whether you want an LED behind the tube, poking outside the box, or both. If you choose both I think leaving the behind-tube LED on all the time as a power indicator and having the external LED work as bypass status would be ideal, like the way Night Owl does it.
Yeah I'm not thrilled with the LED ring, and I'm still rather attached to my clear footswitch washers. I actually avoid using surface mount LEDs as they use more current and in my experience can also introduce noise to the circuit. Not a fan of the ring at all. Reminds me of that cheesy Neon license plate tag frame that I had had on my car in 1993 and I thought I was the coolest ride around...until I got pulled over and had to remove it right there on the side of the road while the cops watched.
But as the owner of a PA that has an LED that only works part of the time, I understand the struggle.
I have not opened up my PA yet to try to fix the LED...but is there room on the board where you could have a hole NEAR the tube that the LED could poke through, and it would be replaceable from the rear if needed? Maybe even two of them, one on either side of the tube? Should be plenty bright enough to see through the grille.

Putting an LED behind the tube instead of under it still makes a nice visible glow, and the place I'm looking at is easily accessible without disassembling anything, you could pop off the back plate and the LED is right there. This also means I don't have to choose the LED color while I'm assembling the tube board, I can have a bunch of tube boards made and ready to go then add the LED last, which I much prefer. I would just have to add pads for the LED right here:
It's all gravy as long as the pedal sounds great per usual and the glow acts as a nightlight too - to keep the gremlins away ! ... Kelly
