It would slow production down quite a bit and a lot of circuits would have to go to bigger boxes. This is the biggest this board can be to still fit in the standard size box, and as you can see it's packed pretty tight. I may end up doing a couple circuits like this, but I don't expect it to ever become a standard thing.
I've seen this over at the builder groups, is it possible to have more noise with so much exposed wire? I didn't think so, but others seem to say that. My Arkham stuff has been dead quiet, but much bigger case
The usual concern over exposed wire is wires crossing each other and creating crosstalk. Exposed wire that's rigidly fixed in place with nothing crossing above or below it is fine.
Nope and nope. Like most preamps you can get dirt out of it, but that isn't the main purpose. And if you look closely you can count how many knobs there are from the back side.
5 knobs? So volume, gain, bass, mid, treble, I'm assuming.

That's about as close of a guess as anyone is really going to get, well spotted.
There are differences here and there, the most common ones I see are number of gainstages, number of cathode followers, and placement of tonestack.
It's closest relatives are probably the Bandmaster (F-2B) and the Bassman, it's basically a Bassman topology without the cathode follower at the end, but keeping all the component values of the F-2B for the low end response.

Also in looking at things while I designed it, it's basically what would happen if you take a LUX and replace all the component values with the values from PAX. Gives you best of both worlds in my opinion, overall sound and feel of the PAX with a little more bite like LUX. I messed up the enclosure so I still don't have it boxed yet, but from my initial sound tests it's a winner.
Yup, pretty much PA clean, maybe a little bit more breakup? It has the tone stack at the end like the LU though, so it gets more first stage gain hitting the second stage.
A worthy fantasy, alas the Blackbird has 3 tubes, and any emulation of what they're doing would be very limited with a single tube.
It's my understanding that the blackbirds clean channel only uses one tube whereas the dirt channel uses the remaining two tubes. So, you may be able to do it. Also, to add a second tube to your design for a fully functional clean BF with drive would be great.
