For that task I believe you need what is called a sploof - a charcoal canister fitted in a tube and then used for the exhaust process - nod nod wink wink ... Kelly

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

So after 3 hours of working on it I finally figured out the issues. The circuit I'm working on is Optipus Compressor, based on the Effectrode PC-2A and therefore basically a smaller, single-tube version of Deep Dish.
The first issue was in the board layout itself, I missed that during debug before but it stuck out last night and was able to jump a wire to fix that issue. Unfortunately the other issue, when I ordered the vactrols for the optical component I got NSL-32 instead of NSL-32SR3. I may have figured it out eventually without the test equipment, but I was able to see that the vactrol wasn't responding the same way as the one in my Deep Dish or PC-2A. So I ordered some NSL-32SR3 and they will be here early next week, so hopefully I'll have a working compressor prototype next week.

How similar is the compressor circuit itself between the LA1A/Deep Dish VS PC2A/Optipus
More time with it today.
This one is definitely a keeper.
I've got it last in line to "tuberize"
everything before it.
It's got a sort of "secret sauce" vibe.
Run clean, and compared to this,
The AM is a bit warmer with a softened high-end. While the SH has this midrange push, and bigger, clearer highs.
Used separately as boosts, they're both great.
But, running the SH with a touch of hair, and the AM into it, pushes that tube into some huge, Mel Schacher type tones.
Another comparison I did, was with the full-size TC Spark. A lot claim it gets some fat, tube-y tone. I went back and forth, and can say that the TCS compares quite favourably with the SH.
That said, I couldn't choose one over the other.
PSA: running a PAX into an SBVT is pure tonal, tubey goodness. That is all.
Spent some time with my new Vampire Slayer yesterday. My one tried rolling a 12AT7 or AX7 in it?
So, the Space Heater is my first Sushi Box pedal.

The Space Heater definitely feels like a truly "always on" pedal, for me.
I've got a tiny, SS combo amp, (due to being in an apartment again) and the SH gives the full, rich tone of a much better amp.
Something about those mids....

Ok, so I had to make a minor change to my SH.
The level knob, was set too low, so it rubbed on the mounting nut.
Loosened it, raised it, re-tightened it.
All good.
A bit easier to set level now.

Same here. Tiny combo, massive SH sound. Always on.
Just wait until you get to throw it into a Westinghouse.
I'm serious when I say the SpaceHouse needs to be a thing.
My brain wonders what kind of tone stack I'd like with it, but in reality it works well by itself, so it will probably work with any tone stack you throw at it.
I did a weird thing and liked it...I put a 5751 tube in my SpaceHeater It removed all the dirt/grit (sad panda), but it gave me an amazing tube sound.
@Sushi Box FX I know the WH has been problematic with the EF86, maybe a lower-gain-tubed SH would be a good option? I know that's not what people buy the SH for, but just messing around with it and I'm tempted to leave mine this way...

Having owned and traced both, I can tell you they are 100% exactly the same compression circuit. I get why they added more tubes, so the LA-1A is a more refined design as far as signal path, but the compression sidechain is identical between them.
I haven't, no reason you can't though. Should still work fine. I went with 12AU7 because it's closest in spec to the 6111 the original uses, but now I'm curious if there would be any difference with a higher gain tube.
An interesting thought, I may have to try it out.
If anyone has a Space Heater or Vampire Slayer and wants a Westinghouse, I'd be down for a trade. I just want some clean tube width and warmth.
Well. It appears that I prefer the darker tone and smoother feel of the mini-tubes over the 12AX7 X versions.
So if you have a Particle Accelerator or London Underground with PA tone stack mini tube version and want to trade up to the X version hit me up. Or if you'd rather sell outright I would consider that. I may would consider a regular London Underground (without PA tone stack) but it's down on the list. Remember, must be mini-tube version and MUST HAVE top jacks.
Mine are both from the latest batch. Both have full color graphics. PA is white finish, LU/PA (did I mention this is a London Underground with Particle Accelerator tone stack?) is raw finish.
So if you have a Particle Accelerator or London Underground with PA tone stack mini tube version and want to trade up to the X version hit me up. Do you think perhaps that the mini tube versions are better suited to bass? I'm quite pleased with my PA.
@Sushi Box FX could mini tube versions still be ordered, perhaps a JC Emerald in the future?
