So I rearranged my pedal board, moving my London Underground X and Slampegg X to the end of the board. Now my LUX has a whine that it didn't have before - the Slampegg is fine. I moved both to a different power supply (from a Truetone CS12 to a Cioks DC7) but there is plenty of juice on tap for it.

I wondered if the whine might be due to closer proximity to the power supply - I know some pedals can be sensitive to that - but wondered if there were other ideas (besides moving it back).

My PA and LU get a lot of whine if I have another tube pedal connected, or oddly enough my Broughton Locust Star. Even with buffered pedals in between they do still whine even when the other pedals are off. Unplugging the power from the other pedal kills all the whine. I put together a mini board with my LU and it's dead silent. Same pedal and same power supply on my other board is very noisy because it has multiple toobz on it.

The majority of the power being pulled by the tube is for the heater, and that's sucking power whether the pedal is engaged or not.

My board has a quick and dirty brick that I threw together in a cheap repurposed chassis, 10x 9V 1500mA outputs, and that obviously does a pretty good job powering multiple tube pedals, but if I were to think about offering a power supply for sale I would have to design the hell out of it, you can't mess around with power when it's going on other people's rigs.

I don’t think so, as I power mine each with separate DC7’s.

I've had times when I had two separate supplies powering two pedals but on the same power strip, and I still got a whine when both were plugged in at the same time. For experimentation I moved one over to my power conditioner, and that made both pedals quiet. So basically the more you can reasonably isolate them, the happier they will be.

EDIT: to clarify though, not having enough power will always cause excessive noise. X series pedals are fairly reasonable as far as tube pedals go though, they settle around 250mA or so on a 9V supply after they've finished warming up.

On an unrelated note, I just got all the pedals that were sold tonight boxed up and got shipping notices out, and it's not even midnight. I'm thinking about trying this thing I've heard of, apparently people my age do it a lot, it's called "sleep." It's supposed to be pretty neat.

It's a pretty new thing from what I understand. Probably a fad. Tireless productivity is the future.

Apparently you just… lay down with your eyes closed, for an extended period of time.
