Great use scenario for the Slampegg, Microtube Variety: having an (Ampeg mini 2x10) amp into which I'm plugging via pedalboard, but while not wanting to mess with any knobs on it. It was set for room conditions in a live-band recording session.
So I got to use my Barber Linden EQ as sort of a bass tone shaper, then the Slampegg as a proper preamp to sculpt that sound into something that would first sound punchy and funky, then next song, something deeply dubby and, well, literally dub-depth reggae, then after that, something tight and progressive. All on my trusty Mustang PJ, which has a lot of tone control of its own.
The guy running the session kept turning me up because he liked the tone so much. Can't say much about the quality of performance or anything, but using Ultra Hi for song one, then Ultra Lo for song two, then just getting tasty with the knobs on song three... if this pedal's v1 of the Slampegg series, then I'm jealous of y'all cats with the latest ones. Sucker is a complete beast!
Though not to be outdone, last week I took my pedalboard with the Particle Accelerator to a jam session, and couldn't help but feel that my new Kiesel Aries 6-string bass might have a special bond with it. Something about how it treats mids even with that knob left at 10/flat... it was a really really really fat tone.

Received a London Underground today. I was looking for a clean tube preamp but turns out I got an amazing "dirty channel" distortion. Goodbye modified rat, your time on my board is up.
The LU is awesome and it will do clean as well with the gain down. Did you get a mini-tube or 12AX7 version?
Yup, keep the gain at about 9-10:00 and turn the master up and it does a nice mid-focused clean sound.
Yeah I got the X version. I suprisingly don't really dig the LU in the cleaner settings. I have a mini tube particle which does that alot better imo. I need something inbetween though. PA adds too much depth in the lows(for what I'm after. The heft is beautiful for other applications though) but LU is on the thinner side(boosting the lows does obviously bring more lows, but it imparts quite the tonal change). LU is staying in distortion role anyway, love it.
I've found similar results..the X versions are a lot thinner sounding than the mini-tube versions, but they are also clearer and less muddy.
I use a mixture of each at the moment. My main board currently has my Particle Accelerator X as the main preamp, but the drives before it are a Damnation Audio MDB-1 and a SushiBox Slampegg Mini....either can provide plenty of bottom end to feed the PAX.
On my secondary boards (yes, two of them) one has a London Underground Mini, the other a PA Mini. These two have massive bottom end and work very well with the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes which does not impart a lot of extra bottom end.
But, I have the new Underground Accelerator on order, and sounds like you may like it as well as it's a combo of the PAX and LUX.

I’d appreciate anyone’s input here. I’m looking for a Sushi Box pre that has a similar break up to the Tone Hammer DI. I love the grit on that when you dig in with a pick but of course it not an actual tube and sounds synthetic. What would be a good alternative? I’ve thought of just combining a Space Heater with it?
September slots. But it would be fun to stack pedals literally instead of sonically.
I don’t have a Space Heater. But the Particle Accelerator has a lot of room on gain before it gets to full break. So the breakup on hard attack is achievable.
Of what I’ve tried, I can only suggest the LUX for that. The Deep Dish imparts a very nice clean t00biness and might help spruce up your tone of places before your Tone Hammer.
Of the pedals I haven’t tried, maybe the Space Heater might help. Vampire Slayer before/after your Tonehammer might also help give some t00biness as well, but obviously no gain on that.
I think the Space Heater might be best for this. I have 6 SB pedals, and I like this one the best for good simple tube sound. It will totally get that grit when using a pick. It also does clean really well and will get you into heavy distortion territory if you want it.
I know some folks might be tired of hearing it, but the Space Heater is an excellent piece of kit.

We still recall stories of our family vacations, the good places and times and the disasters too.
Now, build me my pedals dammit, I'm getting impatient.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to dive right back in tonight or take one more day for R&R so I'm more rested for work tomorrow. I'll ask my wife what she thinks.
If I'm ever on the fence, it means R&R is the answer. An extra night of rest is better than fixing mistakes
