Another dumb question from an effects amateur: how are you all powering these pedals? I'm in the process of building a board and trying to avoid having to go full on cioks dc7, seeing if I can get away with one of the smaller models.

I know everyone will have their own answer, but I use a 1Spot for all my testing.
@JKos' idea sounds pretty slick, I'd be interested as well. The transformer out is actually a feature on the PF-50T that actually had me contemplating picking up the amp just to use as a DI.
Or what about a Sushi Box take on a Noble, the current "holy grail" DI?
I've been avidly following the Great DI Comparison thread for a while now, and have been weighing different tube DI options for once gigs start coming back. But I'm really happy with my current setup and have enough tone shaping options available at several points in my chain, so a simple (and small?) tube DI as the last thing in the chain could be the nice final icing on the cake.

A small tube DI is an awesome idea. Along the lines of the Khan or SVT DI would be my thoughts.

I'm on board with the Khan/SVT DI idea, the Khan is high on my list from the Preamp thread!

So here's a question: I found an SVT DI schematic (someone on TB posted it a while ago) but nothing on the Khan. I'm assuming they're fairly similar as Khan was engineer with Ampeg during SVT DI's development, but how similar are they? It looks like SVT DI uses a 12AX7 but Khan DI uses 12AU7, is that correct? Anyone ever try both that could offer a comparison?
Obeid did the original Ampeg and his Khan is modded a bit. I liked the Khan better, it works real well with acoustic guitars, guitars and vocals too
I think the switch of tube was for the noise floor, and the khan has to be easier. They eliminated all those buttons and simply power down for "passive mode".
Honestly if you want to hit one out of the park, and if want to go the Obeid Khan route forget about the SVTDI, make a SVTMP. They only made like 250 compared to the 850 or so DIs, they have a 12AX and AU7, definitely wider uses, but again the Khan would be easier, and cheaper
The SVTMP looks great, but there are no schematics to be found, and with so few out in the wild I would be even less likely to come across a decent deal on one to take apart. May be a little out of scope at this point, so I'll keep looking at D.I. options for now.
please make sure that the 1/4 out of any tube di has an effected/non-effected switch to be able to get the tube tone to an amp too instead of just the DI out
Yup, that was something I wouldn't have thought of, but when I saw it on everything everyone has mentioned so far so I realize why it would be a good thing to have. That will deifnitely be in.
Josh Broughton did a short run of the ETDI which you may want to look at too.
You mean like a p15? Line out XLR/TS and Unaffected TS? That's what I've come to enjoy, having DI options, and then a thru for other preamp options at a minimal load drop
I love his IN/THRU designs, you can do alot with that design and not have to worry about switches
yes, somewhat. The P-15 has in, out and thru. The out is tube effected, the thru is not. either separate outs or a switch that can turn one out into either effected or not works for me.
Yeah I could go either or as well, it would be awesome if the line level didn't drop when you have a load on the output AND thru, which I'm dealing with now. Manageable yes, but if it didn't change, that would be cool
