The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Oh I forgot to mention, I decided it was finally time to upgrade my bass. Before I started building primarily for bassists I hardly played my bass, but now I play bass as much if not more than guitar, and I started to feel like I deserved better. So my trusty SR500 will be hitting the classifieds as soon as my new bass arrives (I need a box to ship the SR500 in :P).

This will be my first time ever owning a brand new bass, and I'm excited. It's scheduled to be here Thursday.

Well that's obviously a secret. Not going to ruin the surprise ;) I will of course post pics as soon as I have it (which will be awkward because I had it shipped to the guitarcenter closest to my work so I can pick it up on my lunch break, so first pics will likely be in the back of my car).

Same, I played a gig about a year ago and the crowd was literally 6 people plus the members of the other bands. Totally worth the drive and setup time, would do it again in a heartbeat.

I've been trying to start a band with a couple other guys, including the Fluffy Kitten artist, but it's been slow and non-committal. With the new bass coming I'm more motivated to get my B-15N build finished up so I can start auditioning as a bassist. I've started getting bored on drums, my guitar chops aren't good enough to make it as a lead player, my songwriting chops (and memory for lyrics) aren't good enough to make me valuable as a rhythm guitarist/frontman. But my bass chops have increased a ton in the last year, and I would love to have an excuse to improve even more, especially if it means playing with real people.

I'm in the same boat. I had a short run of filling in for a friend at a local jam night for a few weeks last fall, but now all the bars are closing or at half capacity again, and gigs/events are getting cancelled left right and center. Since I have a good day job, I don't press too hard to take gigs away from working musicians, but dang am I itching to get out there and play something!

I'm in the exact same place band-wise, too. I tried starting up something new with a few buddies last fall, but so far it's just been a bunch of texting and one actual jam at the drummer's rehearsal space. I'm trying to get the ball rolling on that again, but I seem to be the most motivated of the three of us.

Brothers and Sistras we are all in the same spot with Covid. I'm aching to play and miss hanging with my community of musicians.

PAx is my main squeeze.

SlampeggX Second in line. If I were you, I would not ignore this one unless you already have that vibe covered.

The we have the HWSH. I'm honestly not sure where that one fits yet. It sounds amazing with Dark Stars and of course I can still gain balance. I think if I were plying basses with onboard preamps it would make more sense. I expect that one with become a UAx or SBVT at some point. It could also become a (gasp) Subway DI+ for something completely different.

In any event, each of the 3 serves a single bass as opposed to being in separate loops and offering up different choices for 1 bass.

I don't go for something where there is a huge difference from 1 preamp to the next. My tones vary but not wildly...

I’m all over the place with which basses I bring to gigs, so I’m different there.

I dedicate different pre’s/sounds to different styles of music, and add whatever extra flavoring is needed with effects.

Currently, I’m mainly using my Helix Floor for different amp sounds and effects, with some outboard effects in every preset via effects loop 1. In another preset, I’ve got my YYZ pedal as the amp using effects loop 2. Now loop 3 is taken up by my DWX, so I’ve built a preset with that as the “amp”.

I’ve still got loop 4 I can add an outboard pre to, plus I’m considering replacing the YYZ with a tube pre also (SBVT, possibly).

And don’t get me wrong, a lot of this is just want vs need. But it’s cool to have a variety of tones to go along with the wide variety of music we play.

I thought about that, that would give a bit more room. Several months ago someone bought a PAX and was confused that it said "Bass Particle Accelerator" when they bought it for guitar. Moving all labels above would eliminate the confusion.

Totally not telling you how to run your business,
But after that, I browsed the SB catalog, and saw that there's a few pedals I thought could benefit from moving the text of the labels up top.
