I think these days clean blends are becoming standard/expected for bassists. Count me in for FKv2 and SS revision.

Last time I had my FK plugged in, I had Gain and Bass both dimed. It was acceptable but still a bit of low end loss compared to the bypass clean signal.
I have one on my shelf, haven't plugged it into my bass in a while but I remember enjoying it.
Specific question you have about it? I can hook it up tomorrow and test/play some more.
Hey y'all - recently picked up an older small tube Slampegg. It's nice and bassy with good sounding tube OD at higher gain settings.
I totally get the concept of a James EQ circuit but has this thread discussed any of the specifics of this variation?
For example is "knobs at noon" relatively flat EQ wise? Is the bass and treble active or passive? Is there a rough crossover frequency of the 2 bands?
I know this kind of info gets asked all the time and to be honest I usually let my ears tell me where I want stuff set but in this case I'm merely interested.

I’m curious if there’s a lot of low end loss with it, mainly. It sounds really good on the demos on the website.
Here’s my deal:
I’ve got a Space Heater and a JCE X ordered for the February builds. Right after I ordered, a Space Heater showed up in the classifieds, and I bought it. Spoke to Nathan, and he said it’s cool to switch my SH order to something different.
I immediately thought UA, but if the SH is just that without a tone stack, it might be silly to have both?
Then thought SBVT….and I’m still strongly interested in that. But, do I really need 3 tube preamps?

I generally keep one for clean, one for vintage sound, and one for modern/light breakup
The UA is a preamp, too. And I'd recommend getting that one.

Yes, there is an audible loss of bass on the BEX. When I first turned on the pedal, I thought I had something mixed wrong due to how much it dropped, but after playing with the settings quite a bit I'm 99% sure wasn't me (through a Headrush FRFR, as well as my Genzler amp/cab that can shake my house). I was able to recover some bass by raising the gain significantly (as long as I was OK with the distortion that adds). I was able to recover the majority of the loss with an after-pedal bass boost EQ, or it works good in a loop with a clean blend.
I plugged in my electric guitar though, and this I feel is a pedal that is better suited for guitar if you're not going to clean-blend or post-eq it.
Black Eye is my go-to drive for guitar, I don't think I've ever really played with it for bass. There are definitely some mods that could be done to make it more bass-friendly, but as-is it's probably better suited for guitar.

I think our use cases may be different. I dedicate 1 bass per pre. I use similar but different tones and gain balance using the preamps. I'm now up to 3...
PAx is my main squeeze.
SlampeggX Second in line. If I were you, I would not ignore this one unless you already have that vibe covered.
The we have the HWSH. I'm honestly not sure where that one fits yet. It sounds amazing with Dark Stars and of course I can still gain balance. I think if I were plying basses with onboard preamps it would make more sense. I expect that one with become a UAx or SBVT at some point. It could also become a (gasp) Subway DI+ for something completely different.
In any event, each of the 3 serves a single bass as opposed to being in separate loops and offering up different choices for 1 bass.
I don't go for something where there is a huge difference from 1 preamp to the next. My tones vary but not wildly...

Do you generally prefer Fender or Ampeg voicing?
For all of the Fender-style preamps I've tried, I keep coming back to Ampeg. I still want to try a UA at some point, but I'm firmly in the Ampeg camp at the moment.
I was listening to a lot of Circles Around The Sun last week, which really tempted me to order a UA for that super clean and fat Fender/Alembic sound. In the end I was able to dial in a suitable tone with my shelf-full of pick-and-play goodies.
Unlike @NKBassman and a majority of bass players I really don't like the ampeg sound at all, I've always had a bad experience with those amps so much that it was in my rider that the promoter would be fined if one was provided as my backline. YMMV is understood.
That is why I love my PA & UA so much.
Fred Hammon Dark Stars. Single coil. Monster slug magnet under the hood. Maybe the most powerful pickups ever conceived of... maybe also the most complicated and difficult to build. Currently I think the only commercially built ones are from Curtis Novak. Not sure if he does Fender spacing like the ones in my basses or if he is doing the narrower spacing appropriate for a Starfire. Fred did both.
Tonally Dark Stars have been described a 'having more of everything'. I can't disagree or find a better description .
A Starfire with BiSonics/Dark Stars is kind of a bucket list bass for me.
