Well there's the slightly misleading bit. I think the LA-1A is probably the best sounding compressor I've ever played (though I'll admit I've never played a real LA-2A), but from a schematic perspective it doesn't have much in common with the LA-2A. The LA-1A has an all-tube signal path, but a 100% solid-state sidechain. I don't mean to put down the LA-1A, it is a very well-designed circuit and the sidechain is very complex, and as I said the sound is amazing, Effectrode knocked it out of the park. But it isn't an LA-2A clone.
The Optipus Compressor is similar to the LA-1A in that it is all-tube signal path with a solid-state sidechain, but it is much simpler, and doesn't take advantage of the benefit of parallel tube stages like the LA-1A. The current prototype has a couple issues that are making me lean toward using a full-size tube, and I am planning to continue development on that as well.
