That's a good note, as said previously I want to verify the X Series and Deep Dish (should be here tomorrow) before I open more slots, but if anyone is willing to pay $5000 I will happily drop everything and build something for you

Nope no LA-1A here. I have Broughton Apex and Monocomp, Cali Compact Deluxe, and a dbx 160a rack compressor.

I love using the UA LA-2A style plugins for smoothing when mixing. How does the Effectrode design compare? Is it similar in naming scheme only? I could see myself wanting to try a Deep Dish eventually. Honestly the Optipus was looking good too, but I probably wouldn’t want to have/keep both.

Well there's the slightly misleading bit. I think the LA-1A is probably the best sounding compressor I've ever played (though I'll admit I've never played a real LA-2A), but from a schematic perspective it doesn't have much in common with the LA-2A. The LA-1A has an all-tube signal path, but a 100% solid-state sidechain. I don't mean to put down the LA-1A, it is a very well-designed circuit and the sidechain is very complex, and as I said the sound is amazing, Effectrode knocked it out of the park. But it isn't an LA-2A clone.

The Optipus Compressor is similar to the LA-1A in that it is all-tube signal path with a solid-state sidechain, but it is much simpler, and doesn't take advantage of the benefit of parallel tube stages like the LA-1A. The current prototype has a couple issues that are making me lean toward using a full-size tube, and I am planning to continue development on that as well.

I think everyone should try an LA-1A at some point. Not only does it add tube warmth, it is clear across all frequencies and makes your signal sound bigger without too much coloration. I got rid of my LA-1A because of pedalboard real estate and lack of pedal shelves and drawers. I have a February placeholder for the Deep Dish and cannot wait. The added features, change in power requirements and lower cost make it a no brainer, IMO.

Yeah I’ll probably get in on a Deep Dish later in the year. Not sure I want to put down now for something that doesn’t even exist yet. The last time I thought about doing that didn’t turn out so well for a certain Toronto-based bass maker. No offence and all confidence to Mr Sushi, of course.

I understand that but there’s no reason to doubt Sushi’s designs or quality. I’d recommend getting a slot while you can. You can always change your mind and get a different pedal or sell the slot to someone else.

I share @kranahan's thinking... I'm thinking I'm going to get in on the March builds for a... well, anything... just to have a slot. I figure that will give @Sushi Box FX time to work out details on all this new stuff he's been talking about. Plus, March is my birthday. Otherwise at the rate this thread is going, we'll be into orders for 2022 by the end of 2020!

Neither Sushi nor Broughton are making 1000s of pedals a la Boss. At least with the Sushi approach, you know when you will get yours and you can get some sleep lol

You say that, but wait until more than 20 people are sniffing Sushi's site when his slots become available, its going to be the same boat, but at a even longer wait than something shipped from Toronto. I meant to ask @Sushi Box FX , at some time in the future are you going to limit the slots available per customer? one can look in the great direction this boutiques going and go drop a swift 3k down on all the slots, and then flip flop them on the verb.. is this something that will be controlled in the future? I just want to make sure I'll have a chance, once I get past the rush when you drop slots - @FenderP this most definitely has crushed dream potential, at a much much longer wait

I don't disagree but I don't think there's a solution that will satisfy. There will always be supply and demand especially with smaller run type things. I'm with you that hopefully there's a way to limit the opportunists. For example, I know I was stupid in not picking up the Calamity (I saw it), but I genuinely didn't want it and wanted to leave it to someone who really did. I would never take a slot for Sushi or buy something this expensive just to flip. I have better things to do.
