The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Are you using it for guitar or bass? I have one for Bass and love it, but it does lose quite a bit of low end I feel. I ended up with it in a blend loop and it's glorious when I need that heavy distortion.
I had intended it for guitar, which I've actually been playing very little of lately. I will be trying it on bass for sure though, and expect it should sound great with my Broughton Filter FX Loop.

So, when I got the Westinghouse, I knew this was my favorite SB device so far. Then I got a Smoke Signal, and it was so close, but the UA mod pushed it over, it was my new favorite. Then I got a HW Lab Rat. It really sends me. My new favorite. What will I feel when my HW Dr. Wattson arrives? Golly gee I love a good processing device.

Oh, I think you’re gonna like Dr. H.W. Wattson!

Yup. The DW and SS are neck and neck for me. I like the SS on active basses and the DW on passives, but it's not a meaningful difference, and may be the other way around for others.

If it sounds as mean as it looks, we’ll be in good shape.

I’ve still not plugged the Black Eye on a bass. Do you like it? It’s great on guitar.

I want to try a Black Eye on guitar so bad. I miss having my Soldano amps but can't justify having them at my skill level or time spent playing guitar. Heck I can't even justify buying a Black Eye for it! I'd love to play one though, as there's just nothing like those Soldano amps! I got one of the AMT S-drive pedals which is supposed to be a Soldano SLO in a pedal..nope.

It’s pretty brash even with the gain at 9:00. I could see it working in some more aggressive settings, but for my classic(ish) rock gig this weekend I don’t think it’ll be the right sound. I also haven’t tried it without the clean blend loop either.

It could be modded to be more bass friendly (this is an informational statement, not an offer, please don't ask me I'm so busy), but stock it's not great for bass without a blend loop.

I'll make the request formal now: mix/blend/whatever knob please, with toggle for EQ change between guitar and bass :D lol

Well I mean there's no way in hell another knob would fit in that box, plus a clean blend would require either another tube or the addition of a transistor or op-amp based buffer circuit. But if you just wanted more girth out of the Black eye you could swap the coupling caps for higher values. Stock uses 22nF which is typical for guitar preamps, I typically like to use 100nF for bass preamps.

Technical question: If 100nF is typical (and enough) for bass, how come the Fuzz Face uses 2.2uF? The Bazz Fuss uses a 4.7uF cap IIRC. Are there diminishing returns above 100nF?
