The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Quick August update:

I made the mistake last week of telling my wife that I was doing really well on time, so she keeps taking my time away from me and now I'm just doing average on time. Last night I finished all the HWDW and they all passed testing, so those will ship out tonight. I also finished wiring up 3 of the 4 Finally, I'll get the last one wired up tonight and get them all tested, so assuming they all pass testing I should be good to finish August shipping tonight.

Also as I was clearing off some shelves looking for something I misplaced (happens far more often than I care to admit) I came across a couple More that I built as extra in-stock builds. Should probably get rid of those somehow.

I love that you added a large number of the Space Heater DIY PCB's to your website. It's an amazing circuit and I could see it being used as a very valid building block for some super awesome projects. Sure it's not something for everybody, especially with the voltages we're talking about... but not many builders would make them available in that way.

Now that I've got the hang of the circuit, I'm so tempted to buy a few more just so I can have them built up and available for future projects. However then I'd have all these random completed PCB's hanging around and me trying to come up with crazy ideas to use them in a unique manner.

Yeah I had to have the nice disclaimer in the build document about the high voltage, and I definitely don't recommend it as a beginner build, but it's a neat circuit and I'm glad people are enjoying building it.

Dang, that's rough. I've started planning to work from home on days I'm expecting packages even if they don't need signatures. I have a new amp inbound (been waiting 13 months for it) that will be here sometime this week, so it seems like a pretty good time to catch a cold and be forced to stay home for a few days :P

Speaking of staying home for a few days, I just opened ordering for the September batch. 40 slots, same pedals available as the August batch, finish options are limited to raw/full color, raw/simple, and Dealer's Choice powdercoat(+$15 charge). Sticking with JJ/Tesla tubes for now.

Trying to decide if I want to disclose the color I chose for dealer's choice or let it be a surprise.

I mean black and silver are the only knob colors available, and personally I think either one would look good with the finish I've chosen. Trying to think what the different LEDs would look like behind it.

Hello. I'm not super familiar with Sushi Box fx, but someone mentioned the UA to me. I run a Markbass Casa head (500w class D, meant to be vintage voiced) into the matching Casa 4x10 cab (sealed cab, also vintage leaning tone). I like this rig, it's punchy and has plenty of power for my needs. The tone is in the ballpark of vintage Ampeg type sound, but I really want to lean further in that direction. I would say it doesn't quite have the complexity and warmth of a Tube amp. I'm not looking for driven SVT rock tone, more like B15 blues & soul tone. I've been looking at the Arkham Oracle pre as one possible solution. Just curious if something like the UA or Slampegg or any of the others or a combo of one or more would get me into that territory. Thanks for any input!

Welcome to the SS, The Slampegg Bee is based on the Ampeg B15 preamp section and tone stack and will certainly give you the vintage flavour your seek. The UA is more Fender / Orange voiced and may not get you the vibe you seek. The SBVT is @Sushi Box FX version of the SVT but it is retired possibly to be revised one day.

Well I guess this is the secret society, maybe I can let people here know what the dealer's choice color is if you promise not to tell anyone.

Add me to the list of people who have had an extremely positive experience with Nathan at Sushi Box FX. I recently bought a used UA which was not functional when it arrived. The seller (a Talkbasser and Reverb seller) basically just shrugged when I informed him. I then asked Nathan to listen to it over the phone, he told me it would be best to let him have a look at it. He found the circuit board was bad, replaced it, and it is due back to me tomorrow. This is exceptional customer service, and he was under no obligation to provide it.

As to the seller, he just said glad it was figured out, didn't offer any compensation (not even for shipping which cost me $16.75), not a large amount, but I personally would have done it. I'm not going to leave positive or negative feedback since it's probably a gray area.

Anyway, planning my 3rd Sushi pedal after I hear my second, so I know whether to get one for my gig pedal board or for home use.

I don’t know that I would consider that a “grey area.” I would hope that wouldn’t happen very often! You can’t always guarantee the item, but you should help get it fixed.

I’d absolutely leave negative feedback. If he sold you a pedal that was supposedly working, and it arrived not working….there’s no gray area.
