The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Question about Elementary:

I love my DW, but I usually run it with the gain between maybe 9 and noon. Even with the volume mod, it’s tough to tan the output. Does Elementary cover that gain territory?

Thanks!
It absolutely does. The heaviest gain stage of Dr. Wattson is the first stage, which Elementary has in common, so without A/B-ing them to say exactly I would say Elementary covers the gain level of Dr. Wattson up to about 2 o'clock or so.

Welp...I had one space left on my power supply. I was eyeballing that Elementary and then saw that Underground Accelerator. The description sounded similar and I loved the way the DW sounds in the review videos...decisions decisions.. Ultimately went with the Underground Accelerator based on the description. Hoping for a little bit of added warmth and maybe a hair of grit when I need it as I have a dedicated overdrive pedal on my board. We'll see what happens!

i found that my handwired DW was a little too bright (even with the treble fully CCW) so i added a small value cap right on the input and mounted on the bypass switch so it would be easy to unmod it if i ever wanted to, but i do like it better with the cap.

Most of the time I do new designs based on what people are asking for, but sometimes I like to throw things together that are going to be useful just for me. Anyone remember Robot Butterfly? Well say hello to Glass Butterfly. Digital multi-fx with an all-tube analog dry path.

I originally planned it to be true bypass, but my friend begged me to make a version with tube buffered bypass so he can get tails on reverbs and delays, and now I really like it like that.

Shouldn’t it be a cyborg butterfly since it’s part organic, part robot?

A fair point, but I thought Glass (obviously referencing the tubes) Butterfly was catchier, and my daughter who originally came up with the name Robot Butterfly okayed it

Show her this cool stained glass butterfly and have her design us some enclosure art!

That is the older mini toob version, all of the new pedals are "X" which means they have full size 12a*7 toobs.
Got it, thanks!

I’ve been after John Wetton’s King Crimson tone for a while, it seems like the Elementary will be able to get that…?

And I hope it’s ok to ask here, has anybody compared the Menatone Mena Watt to the Elementary or Dr Watson?

Just FYI, Elementary is brand new and there aren't any out in the world yet.

This is a little off topic but thread detail: I’m also interested in the Master Effects Super 100. Have you tried that one yet?

Wait... but that doesn't completely explain it!
Those sub-mini tubes are only a single gain-stage, while a 12A_7 has two gain stages... which means that old version Dr. Wattson was only using one 12A_7 worth of gain staging.
Was the old Dr. Wattson actually more similar to the new Elementary?

I don't know anything about Menatone, but I think it's great they also offer hand made briar pipes: https://www.menatone.com/pipes
