The PF-350 is two cables - head to speaker, head to power. The PF-350 is definitely not as warm nor does it sound as good as the other setup, but it does the trick. It's got essential Ampegness.

Liked your comment about the PF-350. I have one on order because I don't see me taking my PF-20T to gigs or jams. Paired with a Suishi Slampegg or UA, I am hoping it "does the trick".

For a second or two I thought of throwing the C.A.B. M+ in the effects loop to warm it up (i.e. power tube sim) since the 350 has the Bax EQ already. Putting the Slampegg in to me would be overkill unless you're keeping the EQ flat on the head. But the reality is I'm trying to keep my chain simple; I'm going to throw the HPF in the effects loop but that's small and not a big deal. Throwing a ton of stuff in the chain just gets me back to the "deconstructed B-15" mentality and adds complexity. There is a point of "good enough".

If I could find a simple - and real - 6L6 tube-based pedal with no EQ to just warm things up, I'd do that in a heartbeat via the effects loop.

Not anymore, used to be. In the very beginning with the side-jack mini-tube preamps they were all that size. More recently the only ones that size were Vampire Slayer, Space Heater, HW Space Heater, and Echosaurus (and Westinghouse, but we don't talk about that anymore).

On that note, I've been cleaning up the basement in preparation for starting work on the December batch, and I think it may be time to get rid of some of the pedals I have duplicates of that are just taking up space and not being used. There are about 20 of them in several different models both past and present, I'll get some more details tonight.

I am new to this "tube pre" adventure and would like to keep my pedals to a minimum as well. I have an Always On Broughton HPF and plan to use either the Slampegg or UA with the 350, depending upon the tone stack I want at that moment. I took Nathan's advice and ordered a 12AT7 to compare to the Suishi stock tubes.

I love the tubey goodness of the 20T for studio recording and want try the Suishi pedals with the 350 to see if it is "good enough" in a live mix. I am not that fussy but do appreciate the input from those more experienced.

Tube amp emulation is a complex topic. What I was doing with the "deconstructed B-15" with a power amp at the end is basically it. The 350 has a tone stack; you can't bypass it.

Tube pres (be it Broughton, Sushi, or something else) can be hooked up to a power amp (Sumo, Jule, whatever) and that's all you need. Doubling the tone stack as I said makes zero sense to me. The 350 really isn't "flat"; it has a sound.

I'm just trying to add power amp warmth, not tone warmth, at this point with the 350.

Can you run it into something like the 350 either in the bass chain or in the effects loop? Sure. I wouldn't. I don't need Ampeg Squared.

Thanks for the response. It shows how much I have to learn.

Just wondering how can you add power amp warmth with the 350 and avoid it's baked in tone? The Sumo and Jule are a little above my pay grade and justification :bawl:;).

I'm going through all the pedals I was thinking about getting rid of, and I'm not sure how I feel about the mini-tube pedals. Are they still worth something? Would anyone actually want one? All the ones I tested work, just not sure how interested people would be.

I'll think about it. The mini-tube Sunnday Drive I was going to put in has something weird going on, so that will have to go on my "non-urgent repairs" shelf.

After testing I'm down to 8 pedals that will definitely get posted, 5 mini-tube pedals that I'm thinking about posting, 3 pedals on my repair shelf, and 4 pedals that I changed my mind about selling (*cough Westinghouse cough*). I'll get pics taken and get them put up, then I'll post the link for the Sushi Box Garage Sale.

Everything has been thoroughly tested and inspected and the polarity fix has been done on everything. So it's all used stuff, and as such I will be discounting everything a reasonable amount, but I guess I would call it my "certified pre-owned" pedals :p

I do have the latest version of mini-tube Particle Accelerator in there, I also have a side jack version on hand but I'm keeping that one. It looks like most of the mini-tube pedals I have on hand are more recent versions, all the ones I was considering selling are top jacks. Two are the older laser engraved artwork though, and there are matte black, rainbow's end, violet sparkle, and pink enclosures. So yup, a few I don't offer anymore. Maybe I will get them in there.
