The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

@Sushi Box FX & SS I plan to try both the 12ax7MG / ECC83MG and 12AT7/ECC81 for comparison. But the tubes are very tight in here, not a complaint but looking for advice for tube rolling, it is safe to use something to ease up the tube from the socket? Suggestions? I have tried the band I made from gaffers tape and the tube didn't budge.

As much as I dug the original art choices this Prismatic Cosmos is lovely.

MojoTone tubes and knobs.jpg Can't wait to see how the gold British knobs from MojoTone will look. They came in a set of 8 for $10.00 ~ nifty. I may also try them on my Boullion Gold Gibson EB14 5 string.

I'm not sure if I understand the question, are you asking if the 1/4" output sounds bad? The Lightning Boy transformer is used to take the high-impedance output from the tube preamp and match it to a low-impedance input like a mixer or interface. The transformer certainly adds something, but it's subtle. If you like the sound through the XLR output, you'll like the sound through the 1/4" output too.

The 1/4" output will sound identical to Space Heater, which is identical to Underground Accelerator with the tonestack bypassed.

I've been known to use a small flathead screwdriver to pry up stubborn tubes in the past, but certainly be careful when doing so and ONLY WHEN POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED. Please don't injure yourself.

It's a little snug compared to the single tube pedals, but this has always worked for me (granted I have a lot of practice):

Potentially obscure question but maybe someone is out there who has the experience. Anyone have an experience comparing the MORE to a 29 Pedals EUNA? I’ve got the EUNA on my board and like it at the head of my chain, but SushiBox

I’d probably be putting it right where I’ve got the EUNA — first thing the bass hits coming out of my wireless and under my board.

Ever considered a nylon spudger (the type used for PCs and IC chips? Might be a safer bet.

Certainly would be a safe bet to use consistently. With my pedals the high voltage has been drained from the capacitors in mere seconds after power is removed so it's safe enough to stick a screwdriver in there without risk of shock, but I've been shocked doing that exact thing on an amplifier which didn't have a high voltage bleed-off and held its volts for a good long time after power was shut off. Better safe than sorry.

I just cleaned my workbench so I have easier access to my oscilloscope, so just for fun I decided to measure how long it takes the high voltage cap to drain.
  • No tubes installed (no load) = 7.90 seconds until capacitor reaches 0V
  • One tube installed = 6.85 seconds until capacitor reaches 0V
  • Two tubes installed = 6.65 seconds until capacitor reaches 0V
I don't have a three-tube pedal handy to test, but kind of interesting to finally get solid numbers for those. So if you're going to poke around in one of my pedals, unplug it and count to 10, then you should be fine.,

I was thinking less about getting shocked and more about using a metal screwdriver on a glass tube. Last thing I need to do with my overpowered meaty paws is start prying on glass things tightly wedged into a small space with a metal stick. I don't need that kind of drama in my life...

To remove the tubes on my Sushi pedals, I use an acoustic guitar end pin puller made of plastic.

Works amazingly well.

It's super close. I have what will hopefully be the last revision of the circuit board all drawn up, just working a couple final tweaks to the EQ with @TonyP- to make sure it's perfect. It's super close right now, but we want to get it all the way there. Once that's been confirmed I can order the final circuit boards, which have the cabsim section implemented on them, then we'll get a couple units boxed up so people can hear them :bassist:

@Sushi Box FX Any thought to doing a version with no cab sim ? In my case it will either be a part on my HX board or in front of an amp and cab. At the very least the cab sim needs to be defeatable...

I get that other folks are looking for more of a fly rig sorta thing

The cabsim will be defeatable with a toggle switch, so there won't be a separate version without it. We realize it doesn't make sense to keep the cabsim on 100% of the time with no option to turn it off.

Luckily the Finally is a double duty pedal. First it is a tube preamp based on the discontinued Space Heater and second a Direct Box. The Space Heater is a tube preamp capable of clean to warm boost with plenty of output to drive other devices and is switchable if you choose to have the tube drive only go to the DI. The Finally is one of the few ways to get the excellent LBA-MC15 transformer that offers a unique sonic signature.

@Sushi Box FX that Fractured Cherry looks very nice, almost as nice as the old Candy Apple Red.

Alright, it's already March 3 which means most of the March batch is finished and shipping notices are going out. I'm still waiting on parts for a couple stragglers, but they should hopefully be in this weekend.

Fractured Cherry pictures to come soon.
