Alright, news about the Deep Dish. Not good news, not bad news, just neutral news. But maybe borderline good news? I don't know. Anyway.
So from the get-go the compression circuit has worked great. I have full confidence I traced it correctly and it sounds beautiful. The big problem I've been having is with the preamp section. I can't get the voltages to behave the way they do in the original, and I've been so focused on the voltages that I've been ignoring the fact that I know how to make a perfectly good sounding preamp already.
So Deep Dish has been delayed enough, I think I'm going to make it even less of a direct clone, keep their sidechain and general control setup, but scrap the preamp and make my own. Will it sound excellent? Of course it will. I will refuse to release it until it does. Will it sound exactly like the LA-1A? Well no, it won't. If you want something that sounds exactly like the LA-1A I'll be happy to sell you my used one when the Deep Dish is done though
