I think it makes sense to have standard colors so you can focus on other things, maybe make the knob color the only option.I don't know, I've actually been thinking about either offering less colors or stop offering options and just have a set color per design to speed things upEvery time I change colors it takes me 10 minutes because I have to clean out the gun and wipe everything down so I don't mix the powders, so that was about 2 hours extra work in November alone.
That being said I also hate saying no to things
I think it makes sense to have standard colors, maybe only give the knob color as an option.
BTW I like @fivestringgecko 's Slampegg scheme because of the low contrast of the labeling.

Ooph I've already missed a bunch in this thread gonna have to read up tonight. Maybe its to soon to grump but I'm not thrilled with the talk of cutting custom colors. I'm also pretty bummed on the deep dish being smaller and only two tubes I may have to pass on ordering one now and just get a la1a. I was pretty pumped on the added gain reduction meter but if its gonna be that drastically different in design I'm less inclined to take a risk I'll have to wait and see how they sound but I'm not one of the guys needing ultra small pedals I have a custom meatsmoke pre and I dont think I would ever consider downsizing it for portability sake alone at risk of losing the heft of that big transformer and the tube warmth. Take this grumping with a grain of salt these are still cool design i just wont know if it will fit my needs now only time will tell

I've been building pedals for about 7 years now, and the first 5 years were basically garbage.I totally get where you're coming from, but if you know LA-1A is exactly what you want I would recommend getting one, you will not be disappointed. Doing a direct clone just cheaper was not my intention, I just wanted to learn from their design, and I have definitely done that. There is a lot of good stuff in there that I will be keeping (which I can elaborate on more if anyone wants), but the final design will be a Sushi Box design, not an Effectrode one. Also since you're in the Chicago area I have no problem letting you try anything in person before deciding to buy
Alright, so let's talk about colors. I've been reading through and following along, so I think it's time to make a decision. And here's what I'm thinking:
I'm going to choose standard colors for each of the pedals. My brain likes thinking about things in terms of colors instead of words, so I will choose a color that I fell best "represents" what I think of the circuit. I will continue to offer custom knob and LED colors like I do now as that doesn't affect the cost or amount of time spent on the pedal. I will still offer custom colors for an additional $20 per pedal. I still want it to be available, but it's been taking a lot more of my time than I originally planned, so I need to accommodate for that.
Switching to set colors allows me to do batches of enclosures to keep on hand, which will be especially easy since things will go over to all top-jack enclosures, so I can just do a batch of PA or a batch of Slampegg and have them waiting around, which can save me a lot of time.
So how will this affect the future? Well I'm thinking about speeding things up. December is going to kind of be my trial run. Based on how I feel the work load is I'm considering consolidating months and doing 40 builds per month. So January and February would both become January builds, March and April would both become February builds. I closed down the May ordering option for now until I can make sure this will work. I don't want to overwhelm myself as 40 builds in a month is kind of a lot, but at the same time the new equipment I have in is a huge step up from what I was using before, and combining that with fewer powder colors to worry about I think I can do it.
To clarify though, if you have an existing order anytime through April I will not be changing your color. I will honor the custom orders that are in right now, but they will only be available as an additional charge in the future.
In summary, this is all just tentative planning and nothing has been finalized yet, but this is the way I may be taking things.
The customization is nice but I think you’re better off doing a set color per design. You’ll save time and have more time for TBand new designs. Hell, maybe you could offer more builds per month.
Agreed. Def cool and fun being able to customize so much but can totally get how that’s a pain and probably not sustainable. At the end of the day it’s not really the most important part. Not going to lose any sleep over it if it goes that direction. Haha.

I think Honoring what has already been ordered and continuing to offer custom colors as a $20 up charge is totally solid.

My primary and favorite amp of all time is my Fender Super Bassman. Most of what I do is recreating this tone when I don't use this amp. Fender acquired Sunn, so there are elements of the 300T in the Super Bassman, and I also gigged a Sunn 1200S for quite a while. I am quietly hoping the overdrive of the Sunnday Drive is in the domain of these amps. Any insight to help me with my decision making process is greatly appreciated!

Senor Sushi - It sounds like you’ve figured out a well thought out and honorable solution to your production flow . So congrats on that . Personally , I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Edison you got and the likelihood that you’ ll make a SB variation - thanks , Kelly
