The Slampegg X is getting released in this month’s batch. I have an X coming this month and I already own the regular. I’ll definitely give comparisons when I receive the X.
Awesome. And incidentally, we're moving to the Bay in July. Wife just started remotely at Stanford but we're not moving until my school year is done and also covid reasons. When life returns to normal, I'll be pleased to come see you play somewhere. Your gear pile is impressive and the styles listed on your profile are right in my zone.
I only had a little bit of time to play with the Edison (believe it or not I don't play much anymore
) but so far I like it. It adds a very subtle tube flavor without really coloring the tone, and is so close to transparent that it almost feels like a volume knob for everything before it.It loses cosmetic points in my book for DC jack on the side, I'm a traditionalist and always have to have it on top, and while I'm obviously okay with an LED mounted under the tube, I don't really like it being on all the time, you don't get to see any tube glow at all.
I haven't traced the circuit board yet, but it would be pretty trivial to do so as it's a simple circuit with few components. Whether or not I do something similar remains to be seen, though I have already looked at a few mini tubes that would be comparable to the EF86 in a similar circuit.
So my overall opinion is that it's a very well-designed, well-built pedal, I love the wooden box it comes in, I love the look, I love the sound. I'm definitely keeping it, but it probably won't end up on my board.
Thanks very much for your thoughts on the Edison . I hope you do end up coming up with something in that vein - especially if it can be made to be similar only better ! ... There seems to be some real demand for tube gain stage devices . I have an older EH tube LHB model but it is not as nice sounding as the Edison demo - I believe because it is more of a starved plate design but that is a guess on my part . The other Night Owl I found interesting is the low watt class A tube amp - the V3 . It really sounds wonderful in the guitar demo . I’m not sure if it would translate as well to bass use but if it could be done - something like that might also do well if you ever decide to branch out from the pedal format .... Kelly

This is not meant to be a review but I spent a little time playing both pedals this afternoon and they are each awesome (thanks @Sushi Box FX for all your dedication). I'm a sucker for the Fender/Alembic tone stack so I favor the PA and can't wait for the X series version to do some rollin' to coax even more sounds from it. The Slampegg has some serious grunt on tap. More than I expected (in a good way). It also has a louder noise floor than the PA which in a live setting wouldn't be an issue but at home it's def hissy at higher volumes. As someone who plays through a Wayne Jones stack (powered/passive 1x10s) each of the switches on the Slampegg has a noticeable affect (some here have said they had a hard time discerning any changes in sound). Looking forward to cozying up to them more in the coming weeks.

Hmmmmm, that has me rethinking my Slampegg X order. Maybe the PA is a better fit for me.
I'll agree Slampegg is a little noisier, as it is a gainier design in general. The way I think about it, if you know that's exactly the sound you're looking for then you'll love Slampegg. If you want literally anything else you'll love Particle Accelerator or London Underground.

Well I just made a big step I wasn't sure I would ever make: I filed for an LLC. I've sold more pedals in the last couple months than the rest of my pedal-building years combined, so I figured it was time to go legit and give the tax man his due. Also now I can write off the CNC, the UV printer, and all my parts orders as business expenses. Oh, maybe I can write off the Noble and the LA-1A too
I really do love the sound of the slampegg. How does the noise floor of the X compare to the OG Slampegg?

Whoa! Yeah for the sake of liability alone that was a good move.
Well that's a really good question. I currently have the Slampegg X prototype sitting on my shelf, but I don't have a normal one. A friend of mine was surprised when I told him that I don't keep one of everything as a personal stock, and for questions like this I think it would probably be a good idea.

Have you considered using the old DOD -250 as a platform for this?

Not really. And honestly it probably wouldn't be much like the Edison either, it would likely be an original "inspired by" instead of "based on" circuit.
