It’s normal. Slampegg isn’t a drive pedal but if you put a low gain drive in front of it, especially if it has output level control, it sounds really cool.

I was just wondering if I was missing something. Most demos I've heard were with rounds and you can really hear the grit.
If I turn the bass switch off I definitely get a little bit of tube drive but then it doesn’t have that vintage Ampeg sound
That's awesome! I'm debating getting the V2 for the separate levels, but also for the HPF to use in conjunction with a UA. Feel like I have to be careful with the bass knob on that thing and it'd be nice to boost the bass against a cut
Made things much easier with FOH. We tried it with HPF on and off. This will be handy for different rooms. Real boomy room like we had last night, we went with HPF on. I ran a dry pass to my amp most of the night as I have a tube pre in the amp. But, what I found is on a harder edge song, I could flip the dry pass off and get a edgier breakup. I really didn’t need to kick in a drive on some songs where I normally would by doing this. Very useful.
An HPF in series with the UA, Dreamcatcher or pretty much any passive eq is an absolute game changer IME.
I have a new version UA and an Always On Broughton HPF and they work together very well.
I’ve just replaced my HW Slampegg with an Elementary and I’m liking the EQ better for Upright.
I wanted to try the Slampegg for upright, but bought the UA as it was in stock at the time. Pretty happy with the EQ for both upright and electric on the UA. Rolling different lower gain tubes at the moment, but it still worked well with the stock JJ 12AX7.
Are you guys finding the Slampegg too fat on the low end for upright? (I haven't received my Slampegg yet but I am curious about how it'll sound on my upright)
I bet; the band I use the UA>Finally rig with we have an ears and FOH engineer and we're always finding the right frequency to apply the HPF; but would be one less step for them if I could dial it in with the pedals
In my case, it's more where the dip in the mid hits... The EQ curve from the Elementary just seems to work better for my bass/pickup combination.

FWIW, the low end of the Slampegg is very controllable.

I have NOS AT7s in both pedals. Depending on how hot the signal is from my new, yet to be installed Yamahiko pickup, I might even roll in an AU7.
Oh I forgot to mention, I figured out the problem with Dreamcatcher and fixed it. I'm waiting on a couple parts in order to get them back in stock (should be about a week), but I'm allowing them to be backordered now.

That's the thing. In my video the switch is down, but I barley hear it getting any distortion. Most clips I've heard, including a video nate sent me, sound way more distorted than mine. Nate said that I should be getting more distortion, but all demos I've heard are with rounds. I like the sound I'm getting from it, but if it's not working like it's supposed too I will always feel like maybe I could be getting a little more out of it.
Is it bad that I have the gain all the way up all the time?
I mean it certainly won't damage anything, but yeah I'm perplexed. And now that I think about it the video I sent you was with rounds and relatively hot pickups. I don't have any straight flats, but I do have tapewounds on a bass with mellower pickups, I'll try that tomorrow.
Yeah it's really weird. I have emg gzr pickups wired to a 500k tone pot, so I would expect a little more distortion when I have the gain all the way up. It's obviously doing something and I'm pretty happy with it dimed, but if it's supposed to distort more when all the way up I feel that I may be missing something.
Uhhhhhhh....what was the problem??? My DC is the foundation of my tone on the board I usually use and I am having no issue with it whatsoever.
