I’m about to get the UA after a long wait annthen I want to get the possibly add the finally but I have a spector Euro and the genzler Magellan 800 head so curious how the UA will sound in rig. In theory it should be perfect for as you put the breakup tone tube sounding growl on bass vs distortion

Wondering what you guys would suggest. If I'm already running a Edison preamp just before a Tone Hammer 500, and I'm looking at the More and Finally from Sushi, would I hit some redundancy there or maybe a bit of overkill keeping the Edison in?
I'm almost thinking of trimming down to just a More/Finally combo to have a DI pedal too. I like the Edison but with the 20 db gain I'm wondering about something a little bit subtler? Hope all that makes sense.

The main bass I use is a lakland DJ4 (Korean built version if that makes any difference) but I also use a p bass with flats and a Yamaha BB604 (active) frequently. Nothing super modern sounding but a reasonable variety.
I run the UA>finally as one end of a stereo chain (the other side being an Arkham oracle) into a GSS Twin Sumo power amp which is super clean and hifi.
The UA sounds less 'vintage' than the Arkham, but definitely on the warmer end of the spectrum than when I used a tone hammer preamp or the tech 21 q strip, which is now a general adjuster eq earlier in the signal chain.
I haven't really found an unusable tone out of the UA so far, even with the controls fully one way or another it's still a sound I'd use rather than an extreme use case.
So, um... holy crap?
TLDR- The Nobelium is awesome and amazing. Build one if you can... if you can't find someone to build it for you.
Rest of my parts came in today for the Nobelium. It was a pretty easy build, with the exception of the enclosure. There weren't any pre-cut available when I ordered the PCB so I just drilled out my own. The vents were kind of a pain, mainly because I was trying to match the top plate. That's not simple to do with a drill press and hand files... so if you're thinking about getting one I highly recommend the pre-drilled enclosure. However I did get a nice navy powdercoat 1950XX, and it really matches the vibe of the pedal so I'm happy.
First thoughts. Wow this thing is impressive.

I loaded mine up with two vintage 12AT7's that I ordered with my LBA transformer. So much clean gain on tap. While it gets something, not quite thick or wooly or anything like that, it definitely gets something. I almost want to use the word creamy, but I don't know if that's correct. Whatever it is I really like it. Maybe I'll just call it Umami.
I really really like the EQ. I'd almost call it modern, but it wouldn't stop me from using it in just about any context. The range of the EQ is great. I played it through my Devon J5 modern active bass and could easily dial in whatever tone I wanted. The entire sweep of the EQ is useful IMO. Full disclosure- I am a clean tone guy 99% of the time. Couldn't push it to any sort of driven tone, but that's not what I wanted this for. The HPF is great, it cuts off right about where I would normally want it to based on my extremely unscientific process of simply turning it off and on while playing loud.
XLR is simply amazing with the Lightning Boy MC15. I love the dedicated XLR trimpot. In hindsight I wish I would have held out for the trimpot with the tiny knob, but Mouser doesn't stock it and I already had everything else in the cart. Also knowing I can adust the volume of the 1/4" output without affecting the XLR is perfection for me.
I tried to do a simple recording to demo it, but my interface is acting screwy for some reason. I'll definitely record a video demo of this one showing the EQ sweep and whatnot.

Well thanks man, glad the build wasn't too bad and glad you're enjoying the circuit. The last of the boxes sold out while I was at NAMM and I didn't order any until a couple days after I got back, so I've had a lot of people ask about it.

Thanks man! So does it do a good job with focused treble. I’m noticing I like to have my mids scooped tad an more treble to compensate an then adding the “growl”
From there it’s lkek a great slap and breakup sound. Like I’m really after the old
Like Shaka Kahn an bassist to those old funk fushion growl clean but on E and A in lower end of neck it’s growly. I often wonder should I mayeb get the Slampeg it’s to much gain for me but I like the eq knobs a the switches a maybe the gain up 25%. Idk Im torn. I love the clips of some thr slampeg but i wish I could hear more of the UA demos

So in short whats the difference in the fender tone stack a the SVT or alembic? Anyone with solid links on where to look I would like to get the tone im after.

My box of parts took forever to come in from Tayda and has been sitting on my bench for two weeks. Now that my wife and I are just getting over a nasty cold/flu/sinus thing, today is "start with resistors day" yay!
SVT is intuitive with cut and boost for Bass/Mid/Treble. Flat is everything at noon.
Fender is boost only for Bass and Treble. Mid is cut only. Flat is Bass and Treble at 0-2, Mids all the way up to 10.

yeah that’s what surprised me about it. Maybe it’s just where the midpoint is set in the tone stack and how it interacts with this circuit? It could also be how my active bass is interacting with it. I’ve got a DIY Space Heater and a tube amp that I added a Fender tone stack to and they don’t sound this snappy.
I think I’ll try it with a few other basses and the double bass and see if it’s as noticeable. Honestly, I hope it is because I really like the sound I’m getting.
IMHO adding More to an Edison will not improve anything in any audibly meaningful way. My opinion may be heresy here, but IME more tubes does not automatically = better tone. I'd be much "more" inclined to add a Finally V2 at the end, which would give you the benefit of the HPF and real tube saturation on tap if/when desired, and give you a DI option without the head.

Neve gain stage pushing iron into tubes = soft warm fur. AOHPF underneath. Into the fx return of a TH700 > Barefaced BB3.
Disregard the knob positions on the Nobelium; didn't reset them before the pic...
Each stage adds just a bit of dynamic, harmonic content and compression. I don't want to say 'rubbery', as that doesn't quite convey the feeling of bounce. It's like stepping into a new pair of comfortable shoes. Made out of flubber.

Thank you, that makes sense to me. I think I'll give that a try then and start with the Finally V2 with the Edison.
Side note these Nobelium/Bassdude builds folks are talking about, what's the low down on those?
I'm thinking $270 for the Bassdude builds, $600 for the Nobelium builds.

Sorry, I’m late to this party…what’s the deal with Bassdude and Nobelium pedals? I take it the Nobelium is a copy of a Noble, but is it made by JohnK or Nathan/SushiBox? What’s the Bassdude?
Nobelium and Bassdude are both designed by me and circuit boards are currently sold to DIY builders. I've had people both in the thread and via PM/email ask me to sell builds of them, so I will be doing a limited run of finished builds of both.
