Bassdude is not a D.I., but it does have a bypass switch. Nobelium is a D.I. and you may be able to find room inside the box for a mute switch, but it certainly wasn't designed for it. Grand Slampegg's design has not been finalized.

As I have zero experience as a gigging bassist, can you explain to me why a mute switch would be important in a D.I.?

For doubling, I can't turn the volume down on my upright. My amp has a mute switch on it for each channel, but for instruments without volume knobs, a mute switch is a necessity. Otherwise, my upright will pick up anything and everything it "hears" when it's not being used.

I’ve whipped up a bunch of these recently from a schematic I found online. While my hand-rolled vactrols don’t mute completely… the commercial Vactrols on this PCB I made are dead silent and don’t pop when activated. It’s less than an inch square and I found a spot inside the Nobelium where I can squeeze it in.

I think I’ll put it on the input side so I t mutes everything… but I might change my mind. I’m gonna mull over it for a bit.

It's a rare occurance that I have a tuner pedal with me on double bass gigs. I normally tune to the piano.

If you don't have one that travels with you for DB gigs I'd invest in the most affordable true bypass mini tuner you can. Even if you never use it to tune it's probably going to be simpler than any modifications to add a mute, and if you ever do want a tuner, there it is ready and waiting. Plus if you change preamp pedal you don't lose that functionality.

I do use a tuner/mute currently (or the mute on my amp if I don't backline or just use venue monitors.) My current "board" has an SB Elementary, tuner and DI.
If that were just one pedal, I wouldn't need a board... it's just a dream guys.
FWIW, I also use a clip on tuner or reference (piano, etc.) often.

There's a few reasons why this doesn't work for me, but mainly I just don't want to add another pedal in my relatively simple chain.

For 90% of my gigs, my pedal chain isn't even a chain... it's a single link consisting of a single pedal.

Adding the mute is not a complicated process. I'll have it done in less than an hour, and most of that time will be disassembling the pedal so I can drill the hole for the switch.

I'm thinking of adding it here, which will be nice and tidy.

I got my big enclosure order yesterday so I was able to get through my list of backorders and get a couple Finally v2 units built up for stock. I'm planning to get more of everything built up starting tomorrow when my big tube, footswitch, and knob orders are expected to show up.

Great news! I need to get my Finally order in, finally (!), but am trying to decide on getting a More also, or if I want to wait on a Single Slice. Are you getting closer to being ready to build production Slices?

No, unfortunately Single Slice still has some development work to do before I start talking about release.

I understand that cost is relative in terms of pedal building when compared to commercially completed projects.
However, as someone who pulled money out of their own pocket to build a Nobelium, and has built up quite a few pedals in the past, I don’t think I would refer to it as a poor man’s anything. It’s probably the most expensive pedal I’ve build. The only thing that cost me more was my Zynthian.

I meant it's cheap if I do the build myself. Main costs would be the tube and transformer. Can the Nobelium take a line level signal? Wondering if I can use it to replace my JDI that gets fed a line level signal.

I’m not a commercial user and I’m not claiming a business in any way. I built one, have the skills and will build one for anyone for a reasonable fee, by PM.
