In all seriousness, it just does what I wanted it to do. I can thicken up the low end or push some upper range without making things harsh or brittle. Need to try it at rehearsal to get much more of an opinion.

I do have a “help me debug my board” issue. With the Nobelium at the end of my chain and using its DI out, the pedal before it pops when I turn it off and on. I’ve tried different pedals before it with the same pop result. If I replace the Nobelium with my AO Ultra, the pedal before it is quiet.

Power-wise, I’m using a Coda with a splitter to power my Nobelium and Slampegg. The pedal that pops and the rest of the board are powered by a Caline C207.

I feel like this is probably user error, but any idea what I’m doing wrong here?

Maybe try the same setup minus the Nobelium and see if you can hear the same (or similar) pop at a lower volume.

My Nobelium picks up just about every sound I put into it with great detail. I don't have a pedal chain with my setup, with maybe the exception of the OvniFX Smoothie if I'm using it for electric bass... but that's an always on pedal.

I’ve got some 12AT7s inbound. I’m playing an active bass and even with the Elementary and the Finally dialed back to about 9 o’clock there is still a fair bit of crunch. I’m aiming for that edge of breakup a little better but if I turn down the gain anymore they’re going to cut out. Hopefully this gives me a little more headroom and takes just a little of the edge off. FWIW, if I flip the switch on the bass to passive they work fine but I like that little extra that the active mode brings. It all sounded great at church this past week but sometimes I need a really clean tone too.

I've had issues like that with popping pedal stomps, but only when chaining multiple pedals off the same adapter/outlet; it stopped once they were properly isolated. My uneducated guess would be the Caline supply isn't fully isolated, and I don't know about running two large-draw tube pedals off a single wall wart (this is the Coda you mean?).

The fully isolated power supplies are usually a little less budget-friendly, but given it's a potential point of failure/problems for the *entire* board, the power source seems like the sort of thing not to cheap out on.

Thank you. I’m going to experiment some more tonight. I agree about the Caline; it was a budget solution, and I already suspect it can’t deliver rated power. I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t properly isolated either. But, I do know that its power is separated from the Coda. Not sure if that is part of the solution or part of the problem.

I don’t think using the Coda to power both pedals is part of the problem here. I have removed power from the Slampegg so it is only powering the Nobelium, and I get the same result.

The Nobelium and the Slampegg are current hungry. How best to power this?

EDIT: I have an acceptable solution. Despite the layout of my board, the tuner was actually second in the chain after the Diamond. I moved it to where it looks like it is (right before the Nobelium) and all is well. No more pops when I hit a stomp button.

I may be wrong, but I think the cause of this sort of thing is called DC Offset. Something to do with electrical potential building up and then being released when the switch is pressed. Probably the buffer (if your using it) or something about the switch design in the tuner is bleeding that potential off rather than letting it build. Not all bypasses are designed the same.

Depends on how much gain you want. My favorite bass drive is Black Eye II.
