The TalkBass G.A.S. Test!

55 for me, but I can think of other infractions that I'm guilty of...

Having a bass repainted repeatedly until 'just right'

Buying a bass as an experiment... just to see if I like it (many times) and then selling it to try something else

Owning several pickguards for the same bass for my different moods...

etc.

I've said it before. Bass-wise, I love my Fenders/Squiers, and only GAS for one thing: A mid seventies Rickenbacker 4001 fireglo in fair to excellent condition.

This 1972 would be fine.

Now acoustic guitar-wise, I have long GASSED for this:

The only 6 string I crave

The only 12 string I crave

Meanwhile, I will make do with this arsenal:

20. But probably lower, since 10 of those points have served to REDUCE gas, since the basses responsible for those behaviors have been in my possession since 2004 and 2000, respectively. No repeats of these occurrences

.....
Have you ever decided you *must* have a particular bass model without ever having played that model? (5 points). 2004, but not since then. Unrequited CallowHill love doesn't count, 'cause I haven't acted on it.

......

Have you ever taken delivery of a bass from the delivery person and scurried with the large, rectangular box to a private place before your significant other could notice? (5 points). 2000. Wasn't so much that I didn't want her to notice. Just a case of "kid with a new toy". It was a bass I bought from one of my favorite artists and I simply could not wait until I got it home.

.....

Do you spend more than 15 minutes a day gazing at the TalkBass classifieds? (5 points) If you spend more than 30 minutes a day on the TalkBass classifieds, add 5 points. If you spend more than an hour a day staring at TalkBass, eBay, Craigslist and online vendor sites, add another 5 points. Yup... all three (15)

Have you ever publicly praised one of your basses as “a definite keeper” or said “this baby will be with me till I croak” and within a year put the bass up for sale strictly to buy another bass? Just last month(10 points)

Have you ever decided you *must* have a particular bass model without ever having played that model? My Lakland and Spector both fit (5 points)

Have you ever hidden a bass under a bed? I hid as many as 6(!) under the bed(5 points)

Have you ever taken delivery of a bass from the delivery person and scurried with the large, rectangular box to a private place before your significant other could notice? Every time...(5 points)

Have you ever sold a bass strictly for the purpose of buying a new bass and later missed it?Just last month :crying: (5 points)

Have you ever bought a bass, sold it, and then bought it back? (5 points)

Have you ever bought a bass, sold it, bought it back, sold it and bought it back again? (10 points)

Do you think about basses before falling asleep at least twice a week? Almost nightly :rollno:(10 points)

Have you ever been forced to cut back on other, more important expenses due to bass gear purchases? the roof still needs to be repaired, but I could really use another Lakland(10 points)

Do you find yourself becoming infatuated with bass colors – e.g. seafoam green lust or red fever? Two words: Daphne Blue(5 points)

Do you find yourself in a pattern of contemplating a new amp or cabinet purchase after a bass purchase and then a new bass purchase after an amp or cabinet purchase? Yup...(10 points)

Have you ever taken delivery of a great bass, played it a while and they returned to the classifieds to look at more great basses? (10 points) Would buying a new bass while taking another one home at the exact same time count???

Crap... I think thats 105.
That's enough GAS to fill a Winnebago.
