If you look at it from your POV, mute people wouldn't have the right... except possibly by sign language. "Speech" in this case is about "voicing" whatever you want... and you don't need a physical voice to do it.

Yes I see that, but I am still against burning the American Flag. And like I said earlier they have the right to do it, I dont like it but they do have that right, and Im not about to try and take away said rights. Or did you miss all that?

ANd yes even a mute has the right to free speech, they can sign or write something down.

True. I don't like anyone burning the US flag either (and I think it's a poor way to make a point), but I believe strongly that they have the right to do so, as long as it's their own flag.

I was just responding to this, Cass.

I know, it's all good. Oddly enough my sociology proffessor and I had a disscussion on this very topic. She helped me to better realize what I was actually trying to say.

Which is, I guess what I was trying to say all along, was yes deep down, I know it is a form of speach, only they are speaking out in a different way, but I just dissaprove of seeing our nations flag (or any nations flag) being burned to make a point.

I think your right to be pissed comes from the same place someone would get the right to burn a flag. As long as we all allow the right for others we should still have it for ourselves.

By the way there are many who will argue burning a flag is an act of patriotism, many of them are veterans also.

No you see, this is communicating, we are speaking via written words. But if you want to be technical, there is limited free speech on the internet. Not to bash the site, but it is a good example of limited free speech. There are quite a few things we can't say here without getting in trouble for it.

And I don't have more than one set of morals, I've always been against burning the flag. I'm a prior Marine and defended it/country. So yeah, to see someone burning the flags really irks me. Many people died for under protecting that flag. But thought I hate it, these people DO have the constitutional right to do it and far be it from me to be a hypocrite and try to change legislation to stop them, because it is protected under the first amendment. So they do have a right to do it. But just because they have that right, doesn't mean I have to like it.

I wish the world was not divided into countries, I am owned by the US government. I can not leave and stake claim on land by slaughtering or moving its inhabitants because only rightious governments with the backing words "freedom" "Liberty" and "democracy" can do that.
I am a slave of sorts that pays 30% to help a group of individuals with power enact war. Oh ya i get the police to harrase me.

The fire department is nice... as are roads...but thats about all I would like to contribute to.

Don't worry, that's coming...One World Government has been in the playbook for a long time! And yes, every April 15th, I too am reminded that I am owned by the U.S. oligarchy. The fact that I am not allowed to have a direct say in how my funds are disbursed, a la "Pork-Barrel Congressional Earmarks", or "Pig Ears", as I like to call them, is not lost on me either.

Sadly, though, it is part of the human condition- corruption and greed. The two go hand-in-hand, and when combined, create "power" for those in power. Why do you think nobody can clean up the governmental corruption that plagues the world? And if it gets concentrated in one place, as in the "theoretical" One World Government, do you think the results would be better or worse than what we have now? Hmmm...

I think it's far from a kick in the balls. I think it's closer to holding your breath in anger. I think it says a bit about someone's attitude, but barely articulates their point. You're mad as the US government? Great. Could you be more specific, please?

Burning the flag is, to me, like a protest speech written in crayon and read by a 3rd grader. I support your right to do it (heck, I'll buy the lighter), but all it really says is that your mad at a country. Hell, I can open the newspaper and find 20 things I hate about it. Setting it on fire doesn't convey what those are.

People that do it seem to do it simply because it makes others mad. Wow. I can piss people off AND get my specific issues out at the same time without wasting $3.00 on a gallon of gas. About the only time burning the flag clearly states anything is when someone does it in reaction to a court ruling outlawing it. In that lone situation, your point in clear.
