I think Steve would concede to Lemmy.

I don't think they're comparable. Playing wise or 'ethos' wise.

Steve Harris is a unique player that started, and practically fronted one of the largest, if not THE single largest band in metal history.

Lemmy had an amazing career, inspired millions of people world wide and left behind a legacy of rock badassery.

Why would you even want to compare them? I think its insulting to both people.

I agree, which is why I worded the question the way I did.

Dickinson was the frontman, and Metallica is the biggest Heavy Metal band in history.

Someone claimed Harris is god, and I said only because he was able to succeed Lemmy, and it went on from there. It was mostly folks putting words in my mouth, akin to that I said Lemmy was a better player.

Yes and No
MH went through many lineup changes, while one person remained throughout, thus MH was still MH.

It takes a lot of people to make up Maiden.

If Steve was Maiden's vocalist, like Lemmy, Geddy, or Tom Araya, I would be more inclined to agree.

With all due respect, based on your avatar pic, I wouldn't expect you agree with anyone who "votes for Steve".

I think Lemmy is definitely more well known, but if we're going to get in to a semantic debate about what we mean by revered then it's going to get murky. I knew who Lemmy was when I didn't know Steve Harris' name... but if you'd played me an isolated bass track of the first five notes of The Trooper I would have immediately known who it was and happily claimed to have more reverence for Harris even if I didn't know his name. One thing I do have respect for is Lemmy's ability to live through the way he treated himself for so long... I'd have died years ago if I tried to live his life :)

I understand Dickinson was the front man, I'm not illiterate. Is what I meant by that is Steve plays lead bass in a sense, and you cannot deny the presence he's had over the direction of the band since the beginning. Obviously he doesn't sing.

Metallica : Record wise, yes. Legacy wise? Probably not.

Not trying to start an argument, just tossing in my two cents.

I guess times have changed. I forgot all about Maiden after Seventh Son
me too-
they have been writing the same song for 35 years. e minor/gallop; I got tired of it although I loved this band when younger and harris was the reason I picked up the bass.

Metallica is the biggest Heavy Metal band in history
how can you say that?
there is no other band like maiden that after 40 years can sell out anywhere anytime and they are essentially an underground phenom. they don't even have to put out new music to do this.
I cant think of one other act that has the popularity long term that they do-its quite amazing really.

Everyone knows that you absolutely adore Motorhead, which I totally get because I do too. But I saw the thread that this spawned from, and you were arguing Lemmy's case there as well. It seems this is more a validation thread for Lemmy than it is a general comparison.

IMHO yada yada. I'm not trying to derail thread, I'm not trying to start an argument, just my two cents. This thread gives me a bad vibe, and most of the VS threads I have seen on here end up getting shut down at some point because it disintegrates into an argument.
