Ryan, you suck (but only because you have VERY similar tastes to myself... in both the Valentis you have :p ).

Sounds like a great bass. Can't wait to see it dude.

:D:p

Well, I think I'm pretty close to finalizing specs with Nino now and sending him the deposit to get it started.

Here's what it's most likely going to be:

Valenti Standard J5
Swamp Ash Body
Spalted/flamed maple top #2
35" scale
Birdseye maple neck and fretboard
No fingerboard inlays (side dots only)
EMG 40J's or DC's
Aguilar OBP-1 w/VTC (18v)
Black Hipshot B bridge
Black Hipshot Ultralight tuners
Dunlop Straplocks

I'm in the market for a custom bass and I've been lurking around this dedicated thread and the Valenti website for some weeks now. (:ninja:)

So rather then bugging mr. Valenti right away with my curious (perhaps silly) questions I thought I'd post here so the (suspiciously happy :eyebrow::)) Valenti owners can answer the more evident things to me. Or if mr. Valenti sees this post and has the time to inform me that would :hyper:.
(For now I say mr. Valenti because I don't know him yet and it seems that he is a luthier that should be adressed with respect.)

Okay, enough sucking up and sorry for the long intro. :)

(35" scale - I don't see that on the website on the "Feature Options" page. But in the "Customer Gallery" I see some basses with 35" in the specs. I thought they were only J-basses.
Is 35" on a P-bass also possible?) edit: :o Okay, out of curiosity I checked Nino Valenti's public profile and he seems to own a 35" P-bass himself. So it's possible.

Frets - I'm confused. I thought I saw basses with 21 and/or 22 frets. It's not clearly listed how many frets you'll get. Or did I not researched properly?
In the Custome Gallery I saw #011 bass with 24 frets. But earlier in this thread someone asked if 24 frets was possible and the answer was: "not at this time."
Meaning perhaps in the future 24 frets is possible?
Not that this issue will be that much of a problem for me.

Body wood - As I understand only alder and ash is availble. It's probably going to be ash for me but it never hurts to ask if perhaps other body woods are possible.

Shipping - I assume there will be no problem to ship it to Europe. I saw that there are customers from the UK.

Finish - I'm a sucker for natural basses. I saw some gloss finishes.
Is a matte finish also possible?

Sorry if some of my questions were already answered somewhere. In my defense: I get distracted by the pictures.

My desire is a fretless P-bass. (Yeah I asked about 24 frets but I offcourse mean a 2-octave range per string, I don't know how to put that.)
If there is some light shed on the above questions then a Valenti bass is something I consider. (All the other specs I already have in mind.)

If maybe I order one, would that be the first Valenti P-bass fretless? :) Would be a nice thought.

Sorry for the long post, thank you for answering my questions.

35" scale is availabe on 5 string basses

4 string basses have 21 frets
5 string 34" scale has 22 frets
5 string 35" scale has 21 frets

I've used Mahogany in the past.

Shipping to Europe is not a problem.

I've never done a Matte finish on the body. After a while, certain spots where your body, wrist, hand makes contact with the bass it will start to get glossy. IMO, I thing i'll look like pooh after a while.

:hyper:

Thank you. Now I know what is possible and what to expect.

Time to do some serious thinking, I don't want to make rash desicions.

I know what I want, specs are 90% in my head. Just some minor details I have to decide on.

A fretless precision bass is what my heart is set on. Out of all the brands and two luthiers, Valenti is highest on the list. Considering what each can offer to me and what I desire.
And pricing is very reasonable, if you see what for example Fender is priced over here.

I don't want something extravagent, just a decent traditional style bass... that looks like a piece of art.
One builder fits that profile perfectly. :)

Newest Valenti Bass finished up yesterday just in time for a Dead By Choice gig.
