Ha! I got it today. It was everything I'd hoped for. The workmanship is flawless. Perfectly balanced and only 8.4 lbs (compared to my JO5s at 10). The playability up and down the neck is effortless-no dead or trouble spots. Frets are nicely done, finish is deep (and durable, I hope). Action is not too high or low. Nut's clean. First class hardware. And that Aguilar pre is HOT. Like WAY hotter than the Auderes I am used to. I had to crank the Nordy down 1/8" so as to not overload my Genz' input stage and still leave the amp EQ'ed for the Laklands. I love the feel. And the tone is all P.
This bass has met my every expectation. Nino was a pleasure to work with. I will recommend, with enthusiasm, Valenti basses to anyone I know. Thanks, Anthony.
Oh, and one thing I don't think I ever see pix of-that contoured neck heel makes playing on the upper frets very, very easy. Here's a snapshot.

So, a funny thing happened at the gig this weekend... my stuff fell on the floor. I usually put my cell and maybe a pick or two (I don't use 'em often) on the top of my Genz rig while I play. We try and keep the stage volume reasonable, so the amp doesn't really vibrate the stuff off ('specially if I put it on top of the towel I use to wipe down the strings). Saturday, halfway through the first set, I looked back and the top of the amp was bare. Huh? Looked on the floor... there's the stuff. Volume was the same as last gig. What happened? Well, the P5 is so thunderous it vibrated the stuff off the top! LOL

Just picked up this bass from Nino at the NYC GTG. What a player
Picked up the bass it felt right and sounded great. Kept coming back to it. Just got in after a long day so I'll give some more thoughts later in the week when I've spent some time. Wasn't planning on this today

Sort of an impulsive purchase but I know when I like something a whole lot!
what is really interesting is that the bass doesn't fall into my normal "preferred specs" there are some things I realized that were different that I was cool with and others I didn't even realize until after the fact.
The relicing, 18 volt preamp with cut and boost and no VTC are usually things I shy away from. All work really nicely in this bass, especially the way the neck is so well broken in. Cutting a slight amount of treble has a similar effect as the VTC I realize not the same but it works for this bass well.
Suprisingly I did not realize or think to ask but found out when I pulled the bass up on Nino's site when I got home that it's a 35" scale and has a Pau Ferro fingerboard, go figure. Again this doesn't take away from my initial impressions.
What I really love about this bass is the feel, it's just broken in so nicely, secondly it has a very raw sounding vintage tone with some modern buffering. Those of you who have played older Fenders may notice that almost chorus like effect when listening to long notes, very rich harmonic content not just a huge fundamental. The notes are also not super clean and airy like some other modern takes on a J. The Sadowsky Blue Steels that are on the bass seem to work very nicely as well.
I went from playing this bass in the super loud room of the GTG to headphones at home after my son went to sleep. I am looking forward to cranking it up on my home rig without background noise when I get home this afternoon...

Mine isn't aged, and it's loaded with Sadowsky SC's and preamp...and it's 34"...but aside from that, it's just like yours

One of the real beauties of this bass is the relic job. I can just drag that bass around like Linus's blanket without a care in the world. It's so hard to associate the tone with one specific design element but I think the Norstrad NJ5s is what is making this bass...
How do you like the more squared off body style, Nino had a bunch of those at the GTG. Didn't try any of them with a strap on. I can't imagine it feels much different.
So much for culling it down to one bass, hopefully Vic isn't subscribed into this thread

As the body is contoured where your forearm goes, I don't really notice that it isn't contoured elsewhere.
I *really* like that bass, and it's been my #1 since I got it, going up against an Alleva LG5 and a Sadowsky RV5.
It plays out beautifully, and sonically it's really capable for just about anything you'd ever need.
I recently got a Sadowsky MV5 which may unseat it as my current fave, but the Valenti ain't leavin'!
I *really* like that bass, and it's been my #1 since I got it, going up against an Alleva LG5 and a Sadowsky RV5.
It plays out beautifully, and sonically it's really capable for just about anything you'd ever need.

I was able to spend more time with this bass last night and this morning. I am able to confirm just how vintage/raw sounding this bass is. I gave a 1/3 of a turn on the truss rod last night and brought the string height down just enough to be in my zone. The fret work seems to be really good and even and the aging on the neck makes it feel like I've owned this bass forever.
This bass sounds a lot more like a passive 60s Fender then one would have suspected by looking at the specs: Pau Ferro, Aguilar pre, no VTC. It is so far away from the tone of my Alleva LG5 and a lot more like my early passive Lakland JO4 with Fralins.
The body seems to be a little undersized which feels great and in comparison to the Alleva the pickups do not exent very far beyond the outer edge of the strings. There is also less meat on the outer edge of the fretboard and that last fret over hangs the end of the neck. Just giving some observations.
I did not like the Sadowsky Blue Steels on my LG5 or UV70 but they are well broken in and compliment the tone of this bass nicely.
This bass is pretty much the same price of a Deluxe Active Fender and for those looking at Sadowsky Metro/NYC, Alleva Coppolo, Lakland or other boutique jazz basses in the higher price range this is a REALLY GREAT value.
